Seriously though, this state is a laughing stock and the Mormon church has done it's best to alienate nonmembers.

Huh. A state that excels in college graduates, low umemployement, low teen pregnancies, affordable housing, frequently tops lists of best place to live, best place to start a business (the American Dream, yo), best place to retire, etc is a bad thing?

And you compare that to when the mob ran Vegas?

Come on now.
 
Wow, I had never even realized that KSL banned SNL. I knew it was weird not being on NBC... but I had never thought too much about it.

Obvious hyperbole but many of those things were also said about mob-run Vegas. Utah also has a terrible education system, the worst air quality in the country, a high depression rate, is one of the few states that regulates alcoholic beverages, has a seriously damaging position on the treatment of women (Equal Rights Amendment, parent notification for abortions), and a mostly homogeneous population. Legislation is being influenced by a non-elected organization.
