Lakers 2027 First Rounder: Projecting Lakers Team Building w/Luka

Lebron isnt MVP level anymore. Can he play like a MVP for a game? Sure, but not for a season and I doubt even for an entire series.
I mean right now he is playing like an all star.
Get him in the playoffs and he probably has another gear

Certainly still an all-star, but hes more like a top 20 guy and not a top 10.
He’s top-10 in PER and BPM which is about as conclusive as it gets to saying he’s a top-10 player still (a stance I had before looking). Put another way, are there really >10 players you’d have over Lebron James right now (for current production, not future projection)? Not buying it.

If we are talking about a series, I can agree, but for a season, no. His defense is awful. The Lakers are 8.7 points per 100 with him on the court, mostly because of the defense, and he was playing with AD mostly.

Didnt know where else to post this, but Bruce Branch reclassified to the 2027 (from 2028) draft class and BYU is one of his top 3 schools. He was the #2 recruit in 2027. 2027 draft class getting more loaded a good thing in a draft Utah will have 3 picks.

I'm hoping to not be super consumed by the draft next year.

Funny how once upon a time the LAL 27 #1 was one of the most coveted draft assets.

There’s a clear lesson here. Future FRPs from select franchises aren’t worth a damn. They simply have the $ to ensure they won’t suck in seasons where they don’t control their own draft.

I agree on a principal level, but the list of such franchizes is rather short. For me its Lakers, Celtics, Knicks and Heat. I trust how those franchizes are ran, and their "market appeal" combined with the quality of operations is a combination you cannot beat in this regard. GSW should be on that list but I havent seen that from them outside of Curry era, so I will hold them just outside.

However we have seen big market teams like Nets forfeit very high picks in recent history, and it seems this year Clippers are also bound to join that list. Theoretically both of those teams should be able to leverage the same things to a lesser extent, but they have taken too big risks and are not necessarily as well operated as those I listed.

Meh I still like that Lakers pick. If the Lakers "farewell tour" Lebron instead of build around Luka, we are in a good spot. We already know that pick isnt top 4. A solid 10-14 would be marvelous.

I figure they will build around luka AND give bron a farewell tour.
