Lakers land D12

In the end the Lakers benefited soooo much from not landing CP3. They know keep Gasol, add Howard and Nash. The Lakers are going to win it all next year...

John Hollinger: Based on what I've been told Houston pretty clearly had a better offer -- including a guaranteed lotto pick. Frustrating day for Rox

Adrian Wojnarowski: HOU offered ORL $12M in space (instead of Afflalo), recent 1st picks, future lottery and unprotected picks. Would've taken bad deals and no need to take on Harrington contract

Just awesome huh...

How is it possible that teams trade their best players to these large makerts. Its really unbelievable how this always is the case. Then they bitch and moan how unfair it is.
Orlando got absolutely reamed in this trade. Had their rookie GM done this in the summer or had it been done last year, the assets coming back would have been much better. Instead, they INSISTED on including a bad contract and in the end, weren't even able to do that.

Yet some complain about what we got back for Deron, or that we should have held out for at least a 2nd-rounder in the Harris deal.

This deal was done in absolute desperation. The picks Orlando received are highly-protected. And Orlando receives virtually no cap relief. Getting back Aflac, Vucevic and Harrington? Abosultely turrible trade for Orlando. Who's their GM, Mickey Mouse?

This has the mark of being done under league (Stern's) pressure, just like the Gasol trade. Something has been promised or will be coming to Orlando's owner under the table. I wish there could be a criminal investigation. Houston had a better offer on the table, just like what had happened in the Gasol trade. And the deal to get CP3 to the Clippers, while also given them Billups on a claim that was just high enough to win over all others reeks of an inside job.

How is this a better trade then the one the Nets offered? Wow, Orlando got fleeced!

It isn't. The Nets are screaming mad over this. Orlando is just plain stupid.

The good thing is this isn't a long term thing, but the next two years are going to be a lot tougher.
Hopefully someone gets injured, or there is chemistry/personal problems that don't make it work.

I dunno, Bynum and Dwight are pretty comparable. IMO, the Lakers are pretty even from before the trade.
Basically, they gave up elite hieght for elite speed.
Also, offense for defense in some ways.

Orlando should just sell their team after that deal.

I hate those that spent years talking me into becoming a Jazz fan .. and wore me down. I hope the entire Lakers team gets HIV.

If you are showering with metta regularly I think it's safe to say you will be contracting aids eventually.

Oh please.

Criminal investigations?

Folks, just admit that there are some really stupid organizations out there. I think anyone on this board (and most of us live out here in the west, hundreds of miles away from Orlando) could have told Orlando that Dwight wasn't coming back over a year ago. I think most of us could have guaranteed that the Nets' offer was the best deal that Orlando could have asked for. Everyone saw this... Except for the Magic.... Likewise, everyone saw that Dwight wasn't going to stay... Everyone except for the Magic... So why act surprised or upset when they pull a junk deal like this one? You're talking about a franchise which traded FOR Hedo. A franchise which traded FOR Agent Zero.

Stupid is as stupid does.

The problem is, problem franchises (like Orlando, Washington, Toronto, Minny, Milwaukee, Charlotte, NO, New York, LA Clippers, Sacramento, etc) are run by idiots. There's a reason why they're constantly in the lotto.

This was merely just another example of the bad management of one of the many poorly managed NBA franchises.

It really doesn't matter what CBA you put in when you have morons managing teams. I mean, seriously, no matter what you do teams like SA will succeed while teams like Orlando or Minny will fail. You could take away San Antonio's next 10 first round draft picks and give them all to Michael Jordan. I guarantee you that SA will still have a better 10 year run than MJ's franchise because SA knows what the hell they're doing while MJ doesn't have a clue.

Despite critics, the Jazz are probably on the good side of being managed. They're not the best. But they're far from being the worst.

As Gov Herbert stated about 1 month ago, "You can't outlaw stupidity."

True dat. Orlando is stupid. They'll soon earn themselves a few nice lotto picks with major suckage over the next few years and will still find a way to screw it up.

Unless Stern finds a way to get rid of some of the stupid ownership/lazyass ownership that merely cares about breaking even, you will continue to see these types of moves.

The experts are also saying Houston had a better deal than LA. So I wonder what backroom deals went down for Orl to choose LA over Brooklyn and Houston. If you choose the worst deal out of 3 either you are stupid or something is up. I don't think they are that stupid...

I'm thinking Orlando purposefully shot themselves in the foot with this trade because they think that the worse they are the better draft pick they get. This form of tanking is only slightly more respectable then what the Warriors did. Also, I hope the Magic seriously over-perform, and then get hosed in the draft lottery. I just have a bad taste in my mouth that the Magic purposely took a worse trade in order to "tank"... of course the Lakers benefited enormously.

If they are healthy the lakers are a great team. But I wonder about Nash (back), Howard (back), Kobe (knee/age) and Gasol (age). I can see all of them missing some time with injuries.

I was wondering this too but wouldn't rookies like White, Jones, and the third dude Houston got likely suck worse than Afflalo, a seasoned pro.
