What's new

Last game of the season -- Jazz @ Blazers 4/11/2018 8:30 pm MST

I haven't been saying that homecourt is more important to players and coaches than fans. Also haven't been saying that most competitive players think they cant win in any particular place.
Sure, you are saying they care about getting home court because that equates to winning. I disagree with both. I think it might to some but not that many.

Your post was just confusing cause you said that homecourt matters more to fans and owners than coaches and players.... which insinuates that it does in fact matter to coaches and players just not as much as it does to fans and owners. Which makes it seem like you do think it matters to the players and coaches, like i do, just not as much as fans and owners.

No, I am just pointing out that its something that matters a lot to fans, not players.

I am also taking the players and coaches at face value who said they dont care about home court. Do you think Snyder was lying?

That’s not how I took Snyder’s comments. I don’t think he was literally saying they didn’t care, but saying that you need to have you focus being on each game and not having your eyes scoreboard watching or something you can’t control — focus on the game at hand. So he says that in context of not making excuses or letting where you play affect what you’re doing or what your game plan is, but not saying that they honestly don’t care.

Yes.
I think players and coaches lie to the media quite often. They even have a name for it. Coach Speak.

Many answers given by players and coaches to media folks are reflective of desired team philosophy and attitude, not the unvarnished literal truth.

Agreed

We should add, their answers aren't therefore useless. For instance, I think it's safe to say that Mitchell would love to win ROY. Whenever he's asked about it, though, he's been modest. Saying it would be a real honor, saying Simmons is a solid candidate, saying he values the team more than a personal award. To me, these answers suggest that Mitchell genuinely wants to be a team guy, wants to appear humble, doesn't want to get ahead of himself. It shows a media savvy and a maturity that bodes well for his future. But it is partly just theater.

I'm thinking with this organization it's all about nostalgia. If the series makes it to game seven on an opponents home court we will rise again as we did last year and that euphoria will come rushing back. The only problem I see with this line of thinking is we're going to win it in six and spoil the party. Oh well, it will still be cool!

So hypothetically if homecourt was not decided by seeding, record, or division winner or anything and was instead decided by the winner of a coin toss getting to choose, then if the jazz won that coin toss do you think they would, A. give homecourt to okc. B. not care either way and instead just let okc decide. Or C. take homecourt? Im 100% certain they would choose C.

Or to put it another way, if there ends up being a game 7 in this series and hypothetically there was a coin toss to determine where its played and the jazz won the toss where do you think they would want to play that game 7? Im 100% certain they would choose SLC.
Good post ...

I think Mexico is fighting a losing battle here. Everything points to the fact that players, coaches, teams, everyone would prefer home court. But if they don't get it, they're not going to let that get in the way. While the odds are not in their favor, teams have won enough without home court to realistically say it doesn't matter -- but it really does. However, if you don't think positively, that you can win it, then not having home court will defeat you. They won last year, against an arguably better team. So, let's see what happens this year.

Yeah, would suck so bad if we won in six instead of seven...
