Try to take a step back, and consider a couple things before thinking an issue as complex as this one.
Superficially, what you said seems to correlate statistically. But then you might think "well, they've probably always been like this".
But then if you do some research, you'll quickly realize that this isn't the case. In fact, it is widely considered that the Renaissance would have been incredibly delayed if it was for the so-called Golden Age of Islam (which permeated the natural sciences, the social sciences-- lots of things).
So if areas dominated by that religion contributed so much-- whilst maintaining a land area relatively hospitable in terms of non-Muslim occupants, then why is the opposite seemingly happening nowadays? If the religion could have been responsible for so much good earlier on-- how is it responsible for so much bad nowadays.
The answer to this all, is: it's complicated. Very, very, complicated. Even I don't know the answer-- but most will attribute lots of this to Western colonialism of the Middle East, coupled with a growing interest in Military conquests ahead of scientific progression, amongst the leaders of Islam. Throw in oil, and a complex network of influences gets spun even more.
So yeah. It's never really that black and white, Bean.
