Lebron Saggin off AK

I feel the Heat exposed a major weakness for the Jazz. During the entire 3rd and 4th quarters Lebron just played free saftey for the heat knowing that AK couldn't hit a jump even while wide open.

...and to think we're paying this clown over 200,000 bucks a game...and he can't hit an open jumper to save his neck! How many more games before the lockout???

Personally, I think we're not only lacking outside shooting, but another dribble drive player.

What's killing us right now is that other than Deron, no one on our team is a threat to create their own shot from the perimeter.

I give CJ some credit - i know he didn't perform anywhere near well enough tonight but this season he has really improved his penetration game and is finishing those drives more than ever before. Hope he can step it up some more. Those minutes are his to lose.

One thing that needs to be mentioned. All signs point towards a lock-out next year. I doubt the Jazz are going to do anything with thier roster ahead of it. AK's expiring contract will stay. After the lock-out AK will be gone, Raja will be 35 (?) and CJ will still be just a youngster right out of High School. But the really awesome thing about the lock-out is that Hayward will get to re-live his rookie season, this time as an older, shaving rookie who hasn't played in more than 2 years. I look forward to trouble at the 2-3 for many years to come.

AK was horrible last night. No matter who he was guarding he couldn't stay in front of his man, which has been his weakness throughout his career. When he was younger he could recover and make the block.

I'm starting to think that the Jazz would've been better off, biting the bullet with Matthews and letting AK walk when his contract expires. As we can see from his play in Portland, Matthews is the real deal. Well, we already knew that, and I was one of the most vocal in complaining about the Jazz not matching. I know it was overpaying -- this year, but down the road we are going to regret it.

I'd like to see any of you guys try and guard lebron and then tell me how bad AK was at doing it.

AK is killing the Jazz. Only 5 points against Dallas and 1 for 10 against Memphis. He is a MAX PLAYER GETTING PAID THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT. He has a reputation of being the last one to practice and the first one to leave. He spends more time reading Russian comic books than working on his broken jumper. When he lines up to take an outside jumper, I literally flinch and cringe. I can't imagine how Jerry feels about his inconsistency. I think he is mentally weak and doesn't have a huge passion for basketball. I SAY WE TRADE HIM WHILE WE CAN STILL GET SOMETHING FOR HIM!!!

It was all of his weak gambles to try and draw offensive fouls. It didn't work once for him. He needed to knock that off and play straight up defense on him. IIRC he didn't even commit a foul in the first half, or at least until near the end of that half. He also sagged in often on plays when he didn't need to, leaving Lebron open for a few easy 3s. AK is capable of better D than he played last night.

These are some pretty old rumors. Get some proof or get some new arguments.

I think all the proof we need is that he scored only 5 points and then followed it up with a 1 for 10.

? AK was 6-10 last night. (A few of his early attempts, I'd say 2, were pretty obvious fouls which weren't called.) Back to your accusations, though, are you dropping those now, or are you still trying to make those claims about practice and comic books?

if i got paid 20 mill a year, id at least have the heart/balls to give my best attempt at a hard foul or two. if you cant stop him from scoring, at least make it a challenge.

I do not like to say I told you so but letting Matthews go was a bad move. However, the Jazz need more than Matthews to solve their problem regarding rebounding and lack of out side shooting. When the playoffs get here teams have to make tough shots and right now the Jazz either get their points from running the offense effectively or if DW carries the team.

I love Matthews.

But how could the Jazz match that gross contract that Portland gave him?

3 points.
1. 40% from 3 is very good. if anybody can do that, that shot should be looked for. bell used to shoot that, and AK was doing it this year. (but then you've got to either know how to offensive rebound, or get the f back on D, preferably both)
2. How often does anybody on the front line ever look to draw the defense and hit the open shooter in his spot?
3. The shooter should be able to either draw the foul, or fake and drive, if the defender is running at them.

AK is a good glue guy on defense and a facilitator on offense. But he should be the last option as a shooter. Having him AND another guy who can't shoot more consistently on the floor at the same time is a problem.

The Jazz do need to add a wing.

The fact that the Jazz are a top-8 team in the league with Raja, AK and Miles at the wings is remarkable.

Please read my thread on trading for a 3 point shooter.

AK's inconsistency in his shooting and terrible defense on LeBron in Miami game is inexcusable. He has to play better and deserve that money if the Jazz want to aim at WCFs.
