Perhaps AK for Jefferson+Sessions would make sense for Wolves if we don't want to spend our TPE now worrying about luxury tax. This move actually would improve the team. It would give us a legit young starting center for years to come and Sessions is a huge upgrade from Price and would give us a reliable back-up PG. Sloan like to have 3 PGs anyway. Also Sessions can play off guard as well, hence adding depth needed with departure of Matthews and Korver. I don't think it is such a bad proposition.

It's not official. SL trib is probably just regurgitating what hoopshype has. They don't fact check.
For one, Millsap's cap number is wrong. You have to take his salary PLUS the pro-rated amount of his signing bonus. That puts his actual number almost $2M higher.
Even according to ShamSports (https://www.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/jazz.jsp), we would be 3 mil or so over if we follow that proposal. That's nowhere 10 mil we've been threatened with. To get a 25 year old athletic center, who has a 20-10 potential (and already averaged that twice) seems worth it to me. Besides, this is the worst case scenario. We have until trade deadline to try to shed these extra few mil. It really doesn't seem that outrageous of a proposition. Certainly not 10 mil over the tax as some suggest.

"Shedding" a few million means we have to give up assets (like Maynor, Brewer last season). I'd rather have the Jazz be able to use the Harp TPE and AK's expiring when teams really decide they MUST dump salaries. We could be the OKC this season. I'd gladly take a solid backup POINT guard over the "dribble, dribble, dribble, launch up a terrible shot" guys we have now. We could get a starting wing, or solid big (like Dallas did with Haywood). We can get picks.
Look, I realize every wants the Jazz to make a BIG move now. But we're just beginning to dig out of the salary hell we've been in due to AK and a PF who's been hurt 1/2 the time. Let's wait until the trade deadline. I think quite a few teams will be dealing.
I think Jazz fans were spoiled by the 18 years of Stock/Malone. It's hard to build a playoff team and keep them going to the playoffs year after year.
Look at GS. One year as an 8 seed, one playoff upset, lots of young players who were supposedly playing such a fun style that the jazz players envied so much, and one year later, half their team is gone and now they are terrible.
Any fan here who thinks that KOC has done a bad job needs to move to another city and see what a bad GM does to a team.
This offseason, there was really nothing the Jazz could do. Boozer wanted the money. He didn't care about anything else. I think most people here agree that resigning Boozer at 80 mil would have been a terrible idea.
I guess the jazz could have gone after Korver, but would having Korver make the jazz a much better team next year?
The jazz were suck when it came to Mathews. By rule, they could not offer him a contract until now, and since Wes's agent wanted the big bucks, there wasn't anything KOC could have done about it.
There are realities in this league. Sure, we'd all like to go out and sign some big Free Agent, but that was impossible. Fans keep crying to go get a big defensive center, but there aren't any out there.
Hey, if Deron is most interested in winning, then maybe he didn't need a max. Same with Boozer, but they wanted the money first and then for the jazz to magically make it happen for them.
And if you want to tell me that you knew back on Nov 1 that Wes should have been signed for 2 or 3 years, then don't be surprised if I don't call you to ask for stock tips.

There is no way the Jazz make the playoffs with the roster the way it is right now.
KOC has done a great job over the years. Some moves were brilliant: like getting Booz as soon as Cavs screwed up, raping Portland for 3d overall pick, drafting Millsap, Korver, getting Donyell Marshall for nothing back in the day, and many others. But last few years it seems like we are just standing still. And I could understand: we wanted to see team develop internally, see what we can do healthy. This year though we are taking steps back. Losing Boozer is a big blow. Korver and Matthews less so, but Booz is the one that really hurts. In order to build a title contender we need to have several centerpieces of the team. Booz was, and we lost him along with role players. By the same token we have given a 10 mil/year contract extension to Okur, who is nothing but a supporting player, hence impacting out ability to resign Booz. I think we pretty much have to be more aggressive by getting guys who can be centerpieces of the team, along with Deron, like Jefferson. Otherwise if we have all role players around Deron in 2 years, he is going to bolt too. If we get someone like Jefferson though (and as you said it is tough to get guys like that via free agency, so trade is a better option), maybe Millsap will become 20-10 guy, all of the sudden in two years we might have a couple of centerpieces in addition to Deron, and he might stay. The problem is, if Deron goes, we are back to square one. And he will go, if he does not have great players around him.

Jazz actually wanted Childress too, but Suns apparently made a better offer to Atlanta. And that better offer is 2012 second rounder. Perhaps Jazz did not like the contract: 5 years 33 mil. Or maybe KOC was waiting for Monday to take a look and assess the situation, while Suns finalized things on Sunday. Whatever the case may be, other teams are getting better now and are taking advantage of opportunities now. I just don't think sitting on your *** and doing nothing now with good players available (albeit going very quickly) and hope LBJ will be available for us by trade deadline is a winning strategy.
