What's new

Lets say Hayward walks.. How can they best damage control it?

They were offering the #3 pick at the draft a month ago for Hayward, why wouldn't they offer a good pick for him now? If they were just going to wait until next year they wouldn't have offered a month ago. Yes the Celtics are desperate they have been rumored to be trading for about every major name known to have possibly been available over the past two months.

Because the 2016 draft is going to look like **** compared to 2017, a speculative prospect like Georgios Papagiannis was just a lottery pick..

They're desperate but not as desperate as the Knicks were for Melo, as I said before they're positioned for home-court in the 1st rd out east already, do you disagree? That type of Melo package is probably what It's gonna take (several 1st round picks plus more) to get Utah to move Hayward (if Jae Crowder is the Gallinari in the equation) and Boston, quite clearly, isn't in the business of selling 1st rd picks, they're buyers.

Ugh, people are reading this thread and responding? It is long enough that maybe I am wrong and this is worth the read. Did ya''ll see the OP? Anyone here able to vouch for this thread as being worth any amount of my time to read?

Lets ask a follow up question. If Jazz win the championship do we resign everyone and try and chase a dynasty or go the 90s Toronto Blue Jays route and mix it up every year and hope we get a couple in a row?

Wow... you guys put a lot of work in these scenarios! I think if Hayward is set on leaving, the Jazz will probably work on a sign and trade deal during next offseason. As for the roster, regardless of whom would be brought in, I think Hood would be Hayward's natural sucessor on the team, being able to play at a quasi all-star level if necessary.

For those predicting the apocalypse should Hayward leave, consider this...
Since Hayward has been with the Jazz, we have an overall losing record of 221-255 .464 (not including an 0-4 playoff record).
In the 33 games Hayward has missed over his career the Jazz have a winning 19-14 .576 record.
Let's not disillusion ourselves into believing that Hayward is some sort of irreplacable franchise changing player, because he isn't. We have enough talent on this team where someone else will step up and make up for his loss. I'd like for him to stay since he's a good player. If he stays...great. If he leaves...**** him. Simple.

In response to the OP, it'd be a bummer if Hayward walked, but I don't think it'd too bad considering how the team is structured. They haven't gone all-in to quickly contend, or been uber patient in a massive rebuilding process (maybe they've kinda done this a little in the past few years). I think once this season has finished they'll evaluate things and decide which way to move - either a promising season leads them to be more aggressive and try more win now moves, or a disappointing season might cause them to pump the *brakes a little, maintain flexibility, and focus on building a stronger foundation for their team to be competitive.

So, in short, I don't think it will be the end of the world if Hayward left because of the way the team is constructed. The strength of its construction imo is its ability to adapt to whatever situation comes its way. Sure, the Jazz will be worse without Hayward, but the organization shouldn't go very far backwards if they do at all.

This.

I would LOVE to get cp3 on the jazz.

I have absolutely zero fear of him walking. The only way that happens is if we don't make the playoffs or if we do and only win a game or two. None of this will happen. I literally, no homerism, think we are going to win right around 54-57 games, get the 2, 3 or 4 seed, win in the first round, and play very competitive in the second round, possibly even winning it depending on the match-up and health. He won't really have any better options, other than Boston some would say, but Horford isn't anything special (and is a bit older) and they simply don't have all the legit pieces we do. Seriously. Gobert. Favors. Hood. Exum. Hill. JJ. Lyles. Diaw. Burks. Our talent is ridic. And he's not a stupid kid and will recognize that. Our talent exceeds any other suitor's across the board, he has great chemistry and freindships with these guys, his home and family are here, and he can get more years and money from a contract here. Not to mention, the number of teams that will be able to offer him a max are limited. The pgab's of the world who make this out like it's some huge concern are delusional. He's staying.

Talk about lost in reality. YOu say Horford isn't anything special but then name those Jazz players and say the talent is Ridic..HAHA, Al Horford has more NBA all star games then all that talent combined. Let this little FACT sink into you brain damaged head for a second.

Boston is positioned for homecourt advantage and to be one of the top challengers in the east as is, why would they be so desperate to trade for Hayward when they can just sign him in the offseason?

Basically, you think Boston is as desperate as the Knicks were for Carmelo? C'mon now, they're obviously not that naive.

Simple reason that has seem to escape you in your NBA2K brain.... Since Boston is in good position now and yet have a lot of draft picks it makes a lot of sense to make moves. Boston doesn't want to keep adding rookies when they are in position now. I suggest stop playing video game GM and look at the reality of it.

You are predicting a 14 to 17 game improvement from one season to another from a team that was already average. My memory might be failing me but, to tell you the truth, I don't recall anything like that happening over the last ten years, with any team. I hope you're right, though.

No one really responded to the OP under the guidelines outlined (Other than me), the thread is about a course of action for if Hayward walks, which was immediately derailed.

it's not worth reading.

Just predictable, near-sighted, deluded responses about the Jazz, people trying to reinforce their old points from other threads by suggesting unobtainable trades and also absurd leaps of faith about them winning a championship.

Cunning Linguist is just whats called controlled opposition, and not to be taken seriously under any circumstances, he exists to speak of extreme scenarios to try to broaden the spectrum of responses on this forum, look at him undder that light and you'll see just how predictable and formulaic his responses are. An obvious agent of the mods or owners of this site to fluff up the responses/post counts, and nothing more, he's not the only one too, see Ncoloradojazz and there's several more.
