This next off-season is the DL's time. That's when I think judgments will be warranted.

Yeah, this is based on 19 games and coming off two seasons in a row of 2nd round playoff appearances in a conference that's no joke. The Jazz look weak now for sure. However, they have proven and accomplished more in the past couple of seasons than the Mavs, Kings, T-Wolves, Nuggets, and Lakers combined. It could end up an awful year for the Jazz, no one can say with certainty. If so, what a bummer. Mitchell and Gobert are great to have. Ingles too. The obvious issue is Rubio coming back significantly slower and with no additions to his offensive skill-set and flat sucking overall. At least an awful season will net a lottery pick! Most basketball folk were predicting the Jazz to have a very strong team heading into the season...

Mavs and Kings are around .500 about 1/4 of the way into the season. I hope they have good seasons; it'd be refreshing to see them in the mix. If they're lucky they might be able to achieve something close to what the Jazz have done the past couple years...

I'm quite proud of D-Rose for finally working on his skills and improving his ability to shoot and play team basketball. Consider me a fan. That's props to him for humbling himself and recognizing what he needed to do to be an effective player on the basketball court. T-Wolves are 8-11. But let's face it, D-Rose ain't giving his all and changing himself in the slightest to play for the Utah Jazz, everyone knows the deal, just like a girl carrying on and partying with D-Rose and his crew knows she will have intercourse with all of them. This is life. Of course it'd be great to have this year's D-Rose on the Jazz.

Of course it was fools gold. Fact was that the strength of the team was the team.

Teams can win that way but not for long. You need great talent to keep winning, and plenty of it. We don't have that now and we don't have it last year.

Sure was a blast to witness though.

I think it's just tough to win the NBA no matter. Who consistently dominates these days? Lebron James and the Warriors. Thunder had a great run with superstars Durant and Westbrook. How would you classify the Spurs consistent success?

spurs consistant success has to do with duncan era, leonard era, and they are bound to have success with LMA who is under-rated as they get, he's no marc gasol but he's a potent big man.

the spurs have had talent for ages now, pop can only do so much.

Don't disagree with any of this. Had Duncan, a top pick, generational talent. Then they had a great team of players during the era where they sliced through the big 3. Leonard became a top five player in the league. LMA had a monster year last season and is underrated I agree, and they fared no better than the Jazz. Realize they are the anomaly. They are the team consistently referenced because no other organization has been able to replicate that sort of thing. It is tough to do that in the NBA.

I haven't read this thread. That said, I think we were all VERY excited going into the season thinking the team we have right now was going to be pretty damn good.

I haven't given up on that yet.

I agree that recent Jazz teams are different than a team like the Thunder or a Lebron led team, in that their talent is spread more evenly across the board. There isn't one guy who carries an excessively inordinate amount of talent compared to some of the other guys. And when they had guys injured in the past it was worse than for some other teams (unless their stars were injured) because their average rotation guy was typically more talented than another team's rotation guy. But they had a relatively high sum of talent the past couple seasons, which allowed to perform as they did. I see what you're sayin.

DL didn't have a great year, but did no long term damage. The best move for him was the no move on Ricky Rubio's contract. Everyone here was was talking a 15-20m a year extension for 3-4 years based on how he closed out the season. DL wasn't sold on him yet. Or maybe Rubio wanted more, and DL just got incredibly lucky. There is no long term damaging contracts at all.

Long term damaging contracts only hurts the Jazz's future cap flexibility, which means absolute NOTHING to a team that doesn't do crap in the free agencies market anyways. He'll just continue to use those extra spaces to overpay players like Dante, Favors and Neto(yep, he got paid more than actual NBA players such as Napier, Vonleh and Stauskas this year, all which can help this Jazz team right now).

Good thread. Lindsey isn’t the worst and he’s not the best GM. I think why so many are frustrated is because so many people in the Utah media act like Dennis is perfect and walks on water. Dennis has two solid picks but beyond that is been very average. He totally botched the Milsap and Hayward situations. And while they may not have been totally his fault, the buck needs to stop with him. He has consistantly been conservative. You can’t win a title without taking risk. We know how supportive we all are as a fan base. We deserve better. Lindsey and management need to do better. I am doubting him right now, he needs to spend money and spend it like yesterday. He has to spend money on a max slot this off season or trade for someone ASAP. If not he needs to go.

Thanks to Lindsay, we've got a total of 5 players on this 15-man roster that are not even playable in a NBA game, not even during garbage time. Quin needs to sub them out immediately after just putting them on the floor for like 2 minutes, or risk getting blow out by 50 to teams that probably won't even make it to the playoffs.

Thanks to the genius of Dennis Lindsey, who continues to replace actual NBA players such as Hood and Jerebko, with non NBA players such as Allen and Niang. There are PLENTY OF NBA rotational players selected in the late first round. And the guy's already 23 years old. I wouldn't be surprised to see him battling Jimmer in China next year.

The Spurs have had elite talent during their run mixed with solid role players.

Outside of maybe Gobert, there has been no elite talent here during the Lindsey era.

Yes it's difficult to stay on top in the league even with elite talent, as there is much to go around, but to expect much from the Jazz with this group wasn't being realistic. Greatness just isn't here.
