What's new

list of greatest US musicians

Tupac. He was prolific. Who knows what he could have gone on to.

Grateful Dead

Aerosmith

Guns N' Roses

I would add Charles Mingus to Coltrane and Miles Davis.

Have to add Robert Johnson. Armstrong as well.

Then goes with

Jimi Hendrix
Thelonius Monk
Muddy Waters
Ella Fitzgerald
Chet Baker

No love for Sonny Rollins? Simply one of the greatest instrumentalists in history, constantly pushing boundaries with his sax.

How you could possibly go 4 pages into this discussion without mentioning Prince amazes me. Here, just check out this guitar solo (starting around 3:20 in the video)

Not to everyone's taste, but people who really love music, mostly love Lou Reed. Not a great guitarist, and certainly not a good singer (altho better than he usually showed) but he cut right to the essence of music and the human condition with his writing.
