What's new

Locke looks at Alec Burks' stats (if you're bored)

The list was unreal, Chris Paul, John Drew, Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, Lamar Odom, Luol Deng, Larry Hughes, Russell Westbrook, Antoine Walker and DeMarcus Cousins.

What is it that interests fans so much about comparing players who haven't shown star ability to those who did when they were rookies? Alec Burks isn't even comparable to Wes Matthews yet. He has shown potential where that list showcased talent.

I would love those three in the starting lineup.

I hate this so much, but reality is setting in for me. We probably need Jefferson next year. I just don't see kanter ready. I think we see milsap as a sixth man and Jefferson (gulp) do well as favors plays center and cleans up his messes.

Burks is a great young player. Nothing but upside with that kid.

If they don't make any trades, I would like to this as a plan:

let Favors and Kanter split time at C
let Al and Paul split time at PF
give them all 20 to 30 minutes a game on average, no more, no less, barring injuries.

I disagree. I think Burks' talent is pretty evident, especially if you're going to compare him to Matthews. While Matthews is a better 3 point shooter, I think that's the only facet of Wes' game that is better than Burks. IMO, 3 years from now Burks is considered the steal of the 2011 draft.

Locke and his stats. I don't really think it's worthwhile to compare guys who play wildly different styles as a means of trying to figure out what their growth is like. Deng's a jumpshooter who can't drive, not to mention 6-9. Westbrook is sorta similar, but he's a PG with an enormous usage rate. I only know Hughes from being terrible so I can't comment on that.

The guy Burks plays like the most is Ellis. He also plays like Wade, but I'm obviously not going there. Anyway, the smart version of Ellis would be a great player and I'd be more than happy to see what that looks like.

Billy I usually love your posts and almost always agree with you, but I just don't think Burks plays all that much like Ellis. Maybe I'm just missing something but I dunno, I just don't see him and Ellis as comparable at all.

It was a lot more evident earlier in the year when Burks was playing out of control. He obviously got the memo that he had to learn to play off the ball and not break the sets. But next season, I feel pretty confident Ty is going to turn him loose a little more. Both Burks and Ellis are very quick with excellent first steps. And like Ellis, Burks evolution is going to be a drive oriented 2 (otherwise we're just wasting him.)

'
A 6'6 Monta Ellis? I'd be ecstatic if that's what we get out of Burks.

Love Burks. Can't wait to see what he does in his sophomore season, especially since he'll likely be starting. Damn, now that I think about it, we could be seeing Burks, Hayward, and Favors all in the starting lineup next season. So pumped.

no we wont start those 3. so there deflate now

we dont need jefferson.
jazz will be improveed without his no defense aproach.
kanter will add enough defense.
if not we could find another player who plays defense at a fraction of what jeffersuck is making

I believe next year's starting lineup will look something like this:

Eric Maynor
James Harden
Gordon Hayward
Paul Millsap
Derrick Favors

Kendrick Perkins is the sixth man (Jefferson to Thunder).

Just a hunch.

Also, as another part of the deal, Russell Westbrook ends up in Boston and Rondo in Oklahoma. A total of four teams will be in the deal.

Ray Allen to OKC as well.

Also, also... Kanter's improvement in the offseason allows him to play the power forward position and Evans flourishes off the bench as the backup Small Forward.

Alec Burks plays well enough next season to be in the talks of league's most improved players.

Add the ability to pass and see the court, and rebound pretty well for guard. That's serious renob action.

The kid has the potential to be something great. You can tell he already wants to takeover games, he just took a backseat his rookie season. Next year he'll shine.

fixed.

I would like to see Burks play 30 mpg next year. Give him a ton of more touches with Al (hopefully) gone. I think he would break out and have a lot of people talking.

I think what I liked most about Burks toward the end of the season and in the playoffs, is that he wasn't afraid to shoot the ball.. and a lot of the time it went in. His less-than-stellar shooting percentages are a result of not getting enough shots throughout the year. Look for his FG% to get up to around the 44% mark next season. (34% from three)

Glad to see more people are excited about Burks. It seemed like people were down on him for a while there.
