Locker Clean-out Discussion

Here is the Ricky conundrum... he has a cap hold of 22M in 2019 when we need to use space. If we extend Dante and have that caphold then it will be tough to have the requisite space we want to chase decent FA. Add favs to that and it only gets more convoluted.

We could extend Ricky this offseason at say 15M and get more space...

We could keep Dante and chance it that we could move him if we needed to clear space. Could also move Crowder to help with some room.

Let’s say we extend Ricky... does Dante want to stick around as a backup? I know many of you don’t care for him but he showed some great signs.

Do we roll with Ricky? Waive his caphold and hope we can fit him and a FA into our room... not like the pg market will get crazy for him.

There is an interesting dance there if you are of the belief that we want space in 2019.

I still wouldn't be surprised if a few of them do read stuff here. Players today are internet savvy and love to read everything everyone is saying about them.

Rubio >>>>>>>> Exum. It's not even close.

I know money speaks louder than words for most but I think Rubio loves it here and might be willing to renegotiate a new longer term contract that helps the team and gets him paid.

Today for sure but Dante started to show some things... I would not want to let that guy go right now... there are ways to limit our exposure but I don’t want to make the choice right now.

Did DL say Exum was playing through a hamstring injury these playoffs before hurting it worse? I thought that is what I heard but in retrospect he was probably talking about Rubio.

They can extend him this off season if he wants a pay cut to stay now is the time to do it. Does 12-15M get it done?

He’s so unique that I could see his market being really limited in FA.

It was Rubio. Remember he missed some time, then said Utah was monitoring his minutes the rest of the season, but he told them during the playoffs he wanted to play through it without minutes control.

Edit: It was both

That's not really true even right now. More like Rubio>>>>Exum. But by next year the difference could be negligible, and then the next 4 years Dante could easily pass him. I think the Jazz are going to lock up Dante, see how things develop next season, and then make a decision. Keeping Exum and assuming he is a rotation player next year will make it pretty easy to trade him if you decide to go with Ricky long term. Ricky could still get better as well with the Jazz developmental program. I think you just keep both guys but make sure to communicate with Dante that he has every license to take that starting job if he earns it. Then you plan to make a choice after next season. Of course if Exum gets a lowish number in FA that might make it easier to keep both for longer if you want.
