Lockout!!!

.....do you know how much child support payments are these days??? Not to mention the need to trick their ride, tattoo their bodies, and tip the girls at the strip clubs? Plus, I don't think the minimum NBA salary is that high. I think it's closer to 400,000 if I'm not mistaken. I'm too lazy to look it up....especially since I'm trying to distance myself from anything NBA related!

I think you right, I think 800k is more like the veteran minimum.

You make it sound like they were getting payed minimum wage. I think the minimum contract was around 800k a year? They will be fine unless they are completely irresponsible with their money.

so consider this you get a contract for 800.000 a year but you have to move to somewhere. consider your jsut out of college so you have no money.
so you move to another state buy a house (probably mortage) buy a car (lease) pay taxes. so how long you think you could last.

I think everyone should take up an $800,000 collection and give it to me as a beta test so we can know the answer for sure. I'll move, buy a house, get a new car, a few tats, couple of whores, (you're welcome Carolina) and I'll let you know when I'm out of money. I'll just be glad to get the question answered with empirical data.

I could make myself last a long time with that money. But the problem isn't the lower people in the league it is the ones who think they own it. But you are right that money wont last that long depending on how smart you are. Does make me wonder how much the nba helps on on things like that when they travel for games. Seems like when you hear from a lot of lower end players they seem to be on vacation a lot.

If you're a minimum contract journeyman/veteran I doubt you are buying a house. Car? I guess their a pretty big range in $ one could pay, but I would hope most minumum contract players aren't buying 250k car. For the sake of this though lets say they have a 75k car.

Start: 800k dollars

Then let's take some off for taxes.

450k dollars

Then Car I mentioned earlier

375k dollars

Now takes some $ off for the house they are probably renting. I have never rented a house before, so someone help me out with this. I'm going to say 10k a month for this example, that is probably too much, but idk. Obviously if you are in a lockout though you will stop renting this house and move into something cheaper.

255k dollars left

Food. You are in a lockout hopefully our unemployed scrub won't be doing too much fine dining.

245k dollars left

Child support, because you're baby mommas don't care you don't have a job. (Any bum fathers out there no how much this is?) For the sake of the example, I will say our scrub has 2 different kids he has to support

200k dollars left

Anyways, the purpose of this example is that anyone should be able to live off 800k without being employed for a year if they are responsible adults.

All another reason why the owners are digging in pretty hard. With the new taxes from Obama they are going to be pretty stingy with their money as well. I don't blame the players for trying to keep as much money as they can. Especially the mid level players that don't last that long and only last a few years.

....ok, I looked it up. NBA minimum salary for a rookie is alittle over 400,000. Both 2 year and 3 year players make almost 800,000 per year. That's the minimum.
