LOL at delusional BYU fans

No. What I'm saying is that I wrote an intentionally obscure(ish) post so that Marcus, Trout, and CONAN would have to stop their rolls and try to understand somebody expressing a point that they didn't disagree with which contained more than two or three nuances. If there has been a single problem with this interaction it is that they refuse to do that. Picture them reading the post in question, and be honest: is there any way they were reading that for any other reason except for a place to drive-in their wedge, insert their own claims, and discredit me?

Maybe, maybe not. But I doubt their intentions are as malicious as you may perceive them to be. Perhaps they feel the same frustration at being dismissed out of hand.

I mean, how old can Marcus be? 30s? 20s, even? And despite that youth how often do you get the sense that he carries with him into every interaction a finished and dogmatic set of beliefs, ready-made!? Castrated living.

You don't feel that's a little presumptuous? Do you expect everyone else to listen to you with a clean slate and total objectivity?

It'd be nice if there was less banal thinking, in general, around here (by they way, if you find that last statement offensive you should count yourself in the total).

The only thing about that statement that I found disagreeable was your follow up. It was nice of you to try to dress it up as a qualifier, rather than coming right out and calling me dumb.

While I understand your desire for more open thought and intellectual honesty, it is prudent to bear in mind that this is, ultimately, a basketball forum. I'm not suggesting that you should discontinue your quest for whole-board enlightenment. I'm just saying, it's silly to be so incredulous when other perspectives don't align with yours. It's gonna happen.

BTW Bronco, I like you and your style. I never meant to insinuate anything contrary to this. My last statement addresses a broader audience (I can see where you got confused)
And, no, I don't expect people to listen to me with a clean slate. I've knowingly jumped into impossible situations (Beantown, now this) just to move the absurdity to a logical conclusion. I detect a slight miscommunication on this, the very most important, point. The incredulousness is the wave I jump on, and its amplitude is what I magnify.

EDIT: and the only reason that I out myself and my motives (instead of playing my role a la Hopper) is so that perhaps we can all step back and see the dramaturgy for what it is.

LOL It's unbelievable how far off the mark you are here. Want to try again?

phew, you're in your 50s or 60s. I, for one, feel better knowing that you've earned your blockheadedness. In all sincerity, I DO feel better knowing that you are fading out, and that your vision of the world -- and the USA in it -- might finally be on the wane.

Too high but you're getting warmer.

It's called life experience. Your views will change as you mature and have specific experiences. I too was once a snot nosed kid that thought they knew everything and used condescension and rage to lash out at those that disagreed with me. You'll grow up one day.

My greatest solace at the moment however is that by the time you reach the end of puberty I'll have Alzheimer's and won't give a crap that you can vote.

I'm in my 30s, you old fart. But, wow, I love the paternalism. I'm guessing that comes quite naturally to you.

it's like that saying: The older I get, the smarter my parents get.

and/or: The smarter I get, the better I realize how little I know.

or "He who smelled it, dealt it"

note: I agonized over this one; it's pronounced "smelt" - yet I don't think the meaning would be quite the same.

though perhaps there is something a little fishy about this thread?
