In all the dogged partisan debate surrounding everything in america today, i think the most concerning aspect has yet to be discussed. The talking heads and powers that be create fear of the "others" to get the political victories. But did they know their fear mongering would seep into the soul of America to the point that today Americans biggest fears is other Americans.
Case in point, if Obama allows used military equipment to be dispersed to the Police...it is immediately assumed he is plotting to take away a segment of the populations civil rights.
If on the other hand he stops the disbursement of used military equipment....then he is weakening the peoples defense so that he can take away a segment of the populations civil rights.
If a republican were in the white house the rhetoric would be the same, just change the groups of people who are supposed to be the target of the presidents secret agenda.
Dems fear republicans, republicans fear dems. Fox fears cnn, cnn fears fox. Christians fear the non-religious, and the non-religious fear the Christians.
At first it was a cheap trick to win votes or ratings. As the fear sinks into the fabric of our society the dialogue becomes increasingly paranoid and inflammatory. I don't know how we get it, but we need to find a way fast. We are on the verge of chaos if we can't find ways to trust each other.
