You can have BOTH!
Pick Kanter @ #3
Pick Fredette @ #12
Fredette is a heady player who has ice in his veins, can shoot lights out from 3pt with unlimited range. Plus, we have Hayward to help do a lot of playmaking and ball handling - we don't need another PG who will be a ball hog. We need a PG who can shoot.
A fit for Jazz's system
Who would you rather have to run the Jazz's system - a Billups type player - composed, calm, big enough to set screens, can knock down the 3pt when called upon. Or - a Westbrook type player - athletic (granted), but at times erratic and turnover prone (*cough* Knight *cough*).
Comparison to Billups
As I've said in other threads, I see Fredette as being a Billups type player and Billups is at least his ceiling. Billups isn't overly athletic, he doesn't play above the rim, he doesn't make flashy pass. But who he does bring is stability, runs the team, and makes his living making 3pts. Opponents respect his 3pt which enables him to make plays for others.
Your comparison of Billups and Jimmer is a joke. Billups is bigger, more physical, better ball handler and passer. Jimmer is the better shooter. Billups is great at running the team and creating for other player's while keeping control of the tempo. Jimmer has shown that he is really good at making a shot for himself. I have yet to see good passing or an ability to control the tempo of a game. Billups uses his size as a PG to post smaller PG's and look over them to see opening in the defense.
The only similarity I see at all is that they both have a tendency to throw up bad shots quite often. Jimmer's go in more than Billups' do but that does not make it a good shot. Jimmer has a ways to go to show he can even be a decent role player on an NBA team. Ball handling, controlling the game, and passing are 3 skills a PG needs that Jimmer is going to have to improve a great deal on to be anything close to Billups. Even if he does they will still be far different because of the size and the way Billups uses that size to his advantage.
Anybody who would indicate in any way that they would rather have Jimmer over Knight serously needs to get away from happy valley for a while and visit the outside world. I don't even really want night and unless we get Irving don't really want any of the PG's in this years draft.
