What's new

Lyles is the pick at 12

Did we become the new T-Wolves?

mediocre
Twolves are on the way up. I love that team going forward:
Wiggins, Towns, Dieng, LaVine, Payne. Two likely superstars in Wiggins and Towns. Of course I like the Jazz more, but if we didn't have Gobert, Hayward, etc., I'd be happy if that were the Jazz' foundation. They've done a nice job moving away from Love, Rubio and Pekovic and are set to compete in a couple of years.

Twolves definitely got lucky twice... First they caught lighting in a bottle with the Love/Wiggins trade when LeBron suddenly decided to join the Cavs.. Secondly they got the #1 pick in a legit talent in Towns.

I don't mind it, for a franchise that had suffered so much over the years I'm kinda even happy for them in a way.

With that size and standing reach he can play some C too. Lack of 3P shooting is the biggest concern while he apparently can knock down long 2s efficiently -this is the shot Q hates most by the way. But look at his shooting dynamics closely. Nice elevation, good touch. 74% FT. Might he have the tools to become a solid 3P shooter?

We wanted a big who can shoot but all were taken already. You play the cards you're dealt.
He was already around #10 on mocks, never below #12. This is after a season he came off the bench playing SF with his 6'10" body.

Consider this. He was supposed to be a top 10 pick while playing at a position dominated by smaller, faster players while not even being featured on the team he was playing for. He did so without complaint and he has no ego issues. He's just confident as hell.

Say he was playing for the Utes at the 4. One wonders if he could have been a top 5 or 3 pick? Just a thought.

Ok, I like lyles now
He said he attended a camp his junior year of HS put on by Burks, they became friends, played a bunch of one on one (he made sure to mention Burks took him to the woodshed every time, which I thought was kinda cool/funny), and they've kept in touch over the years since the camp.

You guys may not want to hear this, but as a player he is a pure PF. And he is closer to a 3/4 than a 4/5. He could play some 5 in a pinch against small ball, but he's more likely to guard 3's than 5's.

He's way more finesse than brute.

I like an Odom comp more so than Diaw.
With the trend towards small ball, this is great news. I think more important is that he's nearly 6'11" and moves extremely well.

When he shoots he reminds me of Channing Frye.
His Agility is much better though. Someone said Odom. I don't think he is that agile. And his handed isn't as good.
His passing reminds me of Diaw though.

Yeah but Odom didn't start out like that neither did he? I still remember him when he was playing Center for the Miami Heat.

People talked about Odom as a next Magic type coming out of HS. I don't like the Odom comp much. Odom was thinner, more of a big ball handler, playmaker, etc, but was never a spot up shooter and outside of a couple seasons, wasn't much of a three point threat. 31% fur his career.

I think the hope with Lyles is that he is a legit 3 pt shooter, he'll play at about 250 and do damage in the post against smaller defenders.
