What's new

He can take backup centers minutes on days when Favs back isn't feeling well. After all, we went out of our way to grab Ersan with the intent of playing him as our center insurance. But I can certainly see Dieng wanting a bigger role.

And I'm kinda surprised myself to see him not receiving offers from a better team. Thought he could be a decent long term replacement for Brook Lopez in Milwaukee. As long as he doesn't go to one of the contenders it's not a bad news for us.
Well I’m pretty sure he wants to play so he can increase his value when looking for a new deal so part time work isn’t a great pitch.

So in those sparse minutes, especially for being brand new, Thomas’ defensive rotations looked pretty good and aware. Had a nice pass off a screen. Looked like he could fit in.

Ersan, on the other hand...

Thomas plays with a lot of energy. He moves pretty well and is quicker than you might think. On the offensive end he already keeps a defender glued to him, which is his first responsibility. If you look at how spaced out the floor was with our third stringers, they were pulling multiple defenders out past 25 feet.

Why doesn’t bogie ever do that?
Neither do Royce, Ingles or Niang.

Speeding up your shooting motion while maintaining the percentage is very tough to do.

Every professional basketball player can shoot at a high percentage when given time and space. But in a high intensity ball game heavily guarded by other players, your percentage will drop unless you can release it quickly.

That is why dynamic shooters capable of catch and release at a high speed are tough to find. Especially the good ones. And almost all of them become legends of three point shooting like Ray Allen, Klay, Redick, Korver, etc.

It's a craft that is hard to master but once you do, your shot become unguardable and you will get paid pretty much for the rest of your career doing just that.

Apparently the Jazz are convinced that Thomas can become one of them.

The three that Matt Thomas hit tonight, if he can do that on a regular basis, he will be immediately inserted into the rotation even if he is the worst defender/dribbler/passer/rebounder in the world.

Nice line from Thomas 2/4, 5 pts, 4 bds, 2 assts, 1 steal and all in 9 mins!
You could 1000% tell he was trying to prove himself during his minutes. He was trying HARD. He looked really good and really nailed the try hard thing by passing for an assist on a play you would expect a "try too hard" to just jack up and extra shot. He did really well tonight.
