If we didn't have Marvin since the beginning of the season, we're probably battling MIL for the worst records in the NBA, tbh.

Trading Marvin is essentially addition by subtraction because it should increase the value of our draft pick this year. I think anyone here would trade Marvin Williams for a top 5 pick in this year's draft.

Trade him, get the #14 pick and use it and the GSW pick to move up to #8-#10 and pick up Doug McDermot... that dude is going to surprise! Draft Embiid with our #1 pick that we win!

I'm pretty sure Memphis can't trade their first round pick in this draft...

They have already traded 2015 pick to Clevland!!!

Memphis cannot trade to us any picks for 2014 and 2015, even the second-rounders. They do not have any bad contracts. They do not have any players that we may be interested in (Kosta Koufus, anyone?).
In short, Memphis has nothing to offer to the Jazz, which makes the chances of any trade almost nil.

Thanks dd and Zulu. I wasn't aware Memphis had already given up their 2015 pick.
Well, the 2017 draft is supposed to be pretty good.

I'd probably still do the deal for an unrestricted 2016 pick.

Guess we can hypothetically close this hypothetical thread.

I'll admit this is a tough one for me. I think cap space will be valuable this summer. I vote trade, however, for 2 reasons:
a. Utah gets worse this season helping their pick
b. Memphis does have a shot at making the playoffs (only 2 1/2 back of GS).

Don't like Prince on the roster, but he's an expiring contract next season. Even a pick in the 20's would be decent value for Marvin. Might be able to combine that pick with GS's (let's assume BOTH teams make the playoffs) for one in the late teens if there is a player Lindsey really likes in that range.

it might help to push memphis past GSW and help us too

I like Marvin Williams. If we get a good deal out of trading him, I am all for it. But if we don't move him, he could re-sign with us. He gets paid pretty well now ($7,500,000) and I think he would get paid a similar amount if he signed with another team. I know he's unrestricted, but if we're willing to pay him around what he's currently currently getting, then I think it's a good offer.

Embarrassing tbh
15/6. Closer than I had expected.

Seems like some would rather retain cap space or keep the "good will" to offer MW a contract for next season. Of course, Memphis hasn't got a pick to offer so it's a moot point. TBH, that was embarrassing for me not to research that before making the thread.
