Marvin Williams Underated and maybe even hated By JF

I have sensed a lot of hate for Marvin Williams.
and people saying he is good for nothing.
but actually he is a pretty solid team jazz basketball type player.

sure he does not score a lot of points, but that is due to lack of a team offense orientated system(also known as ALFENSE)
he shares 90% of his minutes (estimation) with
Jefferson taking 15.3 fga(17.2ppg, 1.12 points per shot)
Millsap taking 11.4 sfga (14.8pp 1.3 Points per shotg)
and foye 9.1fga (11.3ppg 1.23 points per shot)

also sharing the court with he point guard whose sole repsonsibilty is dump it down to al.
that leaves about 7 fga for marvin avg 8.4ppg. with a fg% of 43%. 33% 3pt%
never getting his groove. but still getting a better point per fga than jefferson 1.17.

The most important thing that is underrated by marvin williams is his lack of mistakes.
he does not make mistakes often on the Defensive end. which kinda makes him invisible he does hsi job on the defensive end without making mistakes hence no getting noticed.

lets face it even gordon hayward didn't do as wel as a starter.

so please stop the hate on marvin williams his defense is superb.
and he is the odd man out in the 2012-2013 utah jazz alfensive system.

as long as he keeps it low on mistakes he is a good teamplayer.

I don't hate Marvin it all. I take issue with your comment about Hayward not doing well as a starter. His numbers as a starter are very similar to his overall season stats.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL FOR moving him. I'm just not surprised or disappointed. This is especially true when I thank him for replacing Harris.

Marvin's best attribute on this team is his defense. He is a solid on the ball defender and rarely misses rotations out on the perimeter. Yeah I wish he had a little more fire in him, but overall I think he is undervalued by Jazzfanz...although he is still overpaid for what he brings to an NBA team.

If you watched nobody but Marvin on defense I think you walk away impressed. It's hard to notice just how good he is because he doesn't do anything dramatic.

Other than knocking down the occassional 3, Marvin brings nothing to the table that DeMarre Carroll doesn't.

You can't kill the decision to bring Marvin to Utah - it was worth a shot. But I'm already ready to move on.

Size and length by far.

Carroll takes all kinds of crazy risks on D for steals and going for offensive rebounds. Some times the risks work. Marvin doesn't take those risks and uses his superior size/length to challenge shots and get rebounds.

As much as I love to watch it, it's not always the right decision and costs the Jazz easy looks. Marvin could do everything Carroll does in the half court D, probably not open court and imbounding plays though.

The thing that drives me crazy about Marvin Williams is how horrible he is at finishing around the hoop.

True but Carroll also more than compensates for that with hustle and heart the Marvin simply does not bring to the table.

Between my antipathy for Foye and Jefferson specifically, my apathy about Mo Williams, my unrequited love for the obvious future of this team, and Marvin Williams' 'contributions', I honestly forget he's on the team sometimes.

If he wasn't the No.2 pick in a draft and wasn't making nearly $9m, he'd be a solid NBA player. He is certainly going to opt-in to his contract, but in truth his value is probably in the $3-5m range at this point. Granted, if he got consistent minutes, he might have better numbers, but that is true of everyone on the Jazz but Jefferson.

DeMarre has the highest simple rating of any player on our team, second highest total +/- (+74), highest +/- per 48 (+5.7), and one of the highest win% 57.1%.

Marvin has the 9th highest simple rating of any player on our team, 7th highest total +/- (0), 7th highest +/- per 48 (0), and still a pretty high win % (5th highest 56.8).

It's interesting that Marvin has a 0 +/- for the season because that's about how he plays, not enough to be an impact player but enough not to hurt you.

Marvin is the kind of player who drives me nuts. You look at the box score the next day, see that he got 28 minutes, and you cannot remember a single thing that he did. The invisible man. Give me Carrol any day. I want to see hustle, fight, scrapping, moving, jumping, running etc. Marv plays it too cool. Just think what he could be if he had Demarre's motor.

Here's what I posted about Marvin on 7-5-2012 (when we traded for him): "I'm 'meh' toward this trade - Williams can shoot the three and runs the court well, but sometimes when I've watched him play he tended to disappear for long stretches...."

Saying that, he's a decent defender and he doesn't do a lot of stupid things.

Marvin has to share his +/- with Jefferson and Sap while DeMarre shares it with Favors and Hayward against opponent benches. You could put anyone out there and they'd have the same +/- as Demarre if Favors and Hayward are there with them.

I agree with Dutch (wierd). Marvin 1) doesn't get touches because Al/Sap/Foye demand offensive touches and 2) is a stellar defender against the 3 position which I think is the strongest position in the NBA. If it came down to it and Foye, Carrole, and Marvin all had the same contract, I'd choose Marvin. But because of their contracts, Carrolle is the optimal solution.
