Massive Shooting in Aurora (CO) Theater

I will be packing very shortly. I'd get away if given the chance.

However how would I be able to live with myself if I had the ability to do something and I didn't and a little kid was killed. I'd never be able to look at myself again.

Do what? Rush at him while he has an AK and two other guns? No one could have done anything, unless a group of people decided to bum rush him, which would be certain suicide for many. Even if a group was somehow able to coordinate that, it would have been incredibly difficult in a movie theater because you can't rush anyone because of how the theater is divided into rows, meaning you can't all out rush him without being in a single file line. Doing so would probably just have raised the death count.

I would have laid my *** flat on the floor and not moved an inch. Cowardly, yes. Smart, hell yes. The guy was probably gunning down people that moved and probably just shot random bullets into the crowd (which probably attributed to most of the injuries).

Unless you have cat like reflexes you probably wouldn't have been able to make the jump, and run away to safety without being shot (even without considering possible injuries from the fall alone).

If banning guns reduced the frequency of these mass shootings by 10%, would you support it then? 25%? Any number? Because mamny coutries have not experience a repeat of mass shootings after tightening gun laws.

Right. I might be wrong as I am recalling this from memory, will have to google it up sometime, but I think it was Australia(?) which had a worse shooting incident sometime in mid-90s and they tightened their laws, rounded up the guns and did all that and never had a incident like that again. At the very least you can argue that the numbers can come down by some significant percentage. Its not about blind banning of all guns, but just make it difficult to acquire one, to the point where someone buying as much as Holmes did would have attracted a lot of attention from the authorities rightaway.
In the meanwhile crackdown on the illegal arms trade. Now sit back and evaluate how much this brings the shootings down after a couple of years or so.

It is only in the US where pro-NRA freaks give all sorts of excuses to hold onto their guns. The Wild West culture will take a while to get righted I guess. They may even argue that all high school kids should carry guns to their schools so that they can self-defend in case something like Columbine happens. Heck, while you are at it carry them to the Energysolutions Arena as well, you never know when Artest is going to come up the stands and beat you up.

You'll do just fine. You'd console yourself thinking that in the end you had to put premium on your own life. You'd be even happy that you were able to go back to your family at the end of the day and you didnt let them down for the rest of their lives. He was wearing a bullet-proof vest after all. You wouldnt have known that if you had attempted to pull your pistol on him and he just laughed and shot your sorry *** down. Common sense prevails over perceived cowardice all the time. If you knew that you were going to die anyway(or the odds were high) and tried to do something about it(like those passengers on the 9/11 United flight) thats a different thing. But here you just get your behind down on the floor, stay still, and pray.

Man you have got to love how nothing is truly read on jazzfanz. Just over reaction and blowing things way past what you said. Also like how everyone knows how everyone else will act and think in any scenario

Kind of like this post?

I'm pretty certain that most pro-gun nutcakes have never used a gun. It's pretty hard to nail a moving object, especially with a handgun. I use guns, know how difficult it is, and laugh at what some of you have written. Compound this by a dark movie theater, your own panic, and the panic of others. It's not like in the movies where all ya do is calmly whip the thing out and aim and you mow down 100 bad guys in 2 seconds like Bourne or Tom Cruise or Avengers.

If there had been just 10 people packing handguns in those movie theaters, I can almost guarantee the body count would be far greater. People would have been bumping into you, your hand would be shaking, you'd be moving, the target would be moving, people would be getting into your line of sight, pieces of the human beings and the theater would be blowing onto your face.

On top of that, the guy had body armor. So your shots (had they even connected, probably wouldn't have hurt him). And by the time you would have hurt him, 10 other people would have been wounded by your shooting.

A movie theater is a horrible place for a gunfight. There are only two stairways and a ton of people to get in your line of sight. Had you charged the shooter, he would have quickly mowed you down (his guns were pretty damn lethal.). Had you jumped to one of the sides, you probably would have broken you leg and taken you out of the game right there. You couldn't sit behind a seat and have a shootout with the guy since it was a packed house and people were running to get away.

Literally, the only option would have been to lay as close to the ground as possible and try and ride it out.

To none of us gun owners know anything about them. We use them a paperweights. Good catch thriller

I honestly believe that if the government ever tries to round up all the guns and remov e them from gun owners it woudl result in armed insurrection at the least. I know many people that would refuse to hand over their weapons. I can see a couple of them fighting to keep them. Once that starts happening more and more would join in their defense.

At the least huh? So what's more than an armed insurrection? A Photon Torpedo Armed Insurrection? A nuclear armed insurrection? Would these rebels insert red matter into the core of the earth to create a black hole?

Right.

Those are Stokie's posts from just the last 2 pages. Great for comical relief however, never very good at intellectual honesty. Pot meet kettle.

Thriller, people would go ape **** if the gov tried to take away their guns. Like duck said you'd have 50,000 mini wacos. Once that starts its all a domino affect. Can you honestly see the local sherriff getting into a shoot out with a guy he's known for 20 years over trying to takes his guns away?

So then the government has to resort to the national guard or the FBI or something. At that point that small town, and other across the nation, see them as outsiders...

Easy to see it getting violent on a wide scale

"armed insurrection at least" implies that something bigger would probably happen. What would happen is that some people would probably resist, get their asses handed to them, and everyone would give up. Then you would hear a ton of people on the news say things like "Ermagrd I'm moving to Canada!".

LOL.

Exactly

I understand what you are saying. Depending are where people are sitting and where the shooter is most people would be out of position. However with 10 armed citizens chances are good one of them would be in a position to have a mostly clear shot. As for the body armor, it might stop the bullets. However, I believe that the effect of being shot at would made the shooter more cautious- the crap I might die thought could enter his mind.
