Massive Shooting in Aurora (CO) Theater

The gun debate is stuck in mud - some people will be forever for it, some forever against it and the NRA has bought the entire republican party and enough of the democratic party to make sure nothing is really done about it once the chatter dies down after tragic events like this.

I have to ask - can any one justify why in the world the body armor that this puke was wearing from head to toe is legal for the general public? Kind of blows away the "armed good samaritan" theory that the NRA seems to put forth all the time when the bad guy is wearing everything up to and including a bullet proof groin protector.

BTW, by this piece of garbage's expression and body language in court today, I'm more than convinced he planned on off'ing himself after the shooting and just lost his nerve. While the death penality is more than intiuitive in this case, I think 23 hours a day in a solitary cell would be much worse for this guy

How can you allow guns but not allow protection against guns?

For what possible reason would the average person need body armor for during the normal course of events. And if you say to protect yourself from randoming shootings like this then you're suggesting every one should wear body armor all the time?

Guns, marijuana, and prostitution, should all be legal.

However, there should be strict limitations on when and where(and who) you can buy them/it.

Well you can reverse the question and say "Why do you need to carry a gun on you at all times?". The answer for both is the rare cases you need protection. I'm sure most of the civilians in America who carry a gun at all times have rarely ever, if at all, drawn the firearm. Of course less people are going to wear body armor because it's probably a relatively high inconvenience. I do agree it should be suspicious if someone has all that gear (just like it should be suspicious if someone has a ****ing AK-47), but it shouldn't be illegal for them to have it.

And there are probably people out there who would/do wear it all the time.

I think Chris Rock did a bit on how that the answer is to make bullets cost a ton of money, that way people would shoot less people because it cost too much money.

I will be packing very shortly. I'd get away if given the chance.

However how would I be able to live with myself if I had the ability to do something and I didn't and a little kid was killed. I'd never be able to look at myself again.

Wasn't there a guy who barred the door to the next screen over and prevented the gunman from shooting up the audience there?

Let's say someone was packing. The killer was wearing body armor and seemed pretty prepared. So I guess we can say that at least a shootout in a dark theater would delay a few deaths? Create a hostage situation? or something. I guess its better than nothing, but imagine if the entire audience was packing. In my opinion, gun control would just open a larger black market, so the wrong people will end up getting power and blast everyone else away. Imagine a situation where everyone is walking around with a loaded gun, would people be nicer or would there be cowboy standoffs randomly all over the place?

Assuming you are just with a group of dudes and sat at the top in a typical modern movie theater with split entrances, would you jump over the walls on the sides to run outside the door? (this can possibly break your legs, but allows other people to escape the opposite way if the killer decides to chase you) I can't imagine the horror in that room! :(

it is just about packing.
it's also about knowing how to use a gun. training with it.
nut just radomly shooting targets.
but also stress drills.
meaning shooting while the body is under extreem stress.

I'm pretty certain that most pro-gun nutcakes have never used a gun. It's pretty hard to nail a moving object, especially with a handgun. I use guns, know how difficult it is, and laugh at what some of you have written. Compound this by a dark movie theater, your own panic, and the panic of others. It's not like in the movies where all ya do is calmly whip the thing out and aim and you mow down 100 bad guys in 2 seconds like Bourne or Tom Cruise or Avengers.

thats why training under stress would help.
by training under stressfull conditions, when those conditions arise you get to preform in stressful/dark/loud situations.
you'd be panic, but come trigger time your body would stabilize for the spilt secnonds when you pull the trigger
