Looks like Portland is OVER the cap currently. They probably can only offer the MLE at the most.

They frontloaded the Millsap contract last year. Looks like they'll have to backload the Matthews deal if they want to discourage Utah to match. Portland's stupid because it's either a crazy deal that is above Matthews worth, or it's a reasonable deal that Utah will most certainly match. Funny how two years in a row it seems their main free agent focus is a player from Utah that they most likely won't get.

How does that work?
Portland is over the cap so all they can offer is the MLE starting about 5.8Mish? with 7% annual raises that would not equal 40M after 5 years.

Year 1: 5.8M
Year 2: 6.2M
Year 3: 6.6M
Year 4: 7M
Year 5: 7.5M

Total: 33.1M

Or am I calculating wrong?
