Mathews signs offer sheet w/Blazers (5 yrs/34 mil)

do anyone think utah might do a sign in trade with portland...wes mathews for nicolas batum and jeff pendergraph so at least utah gets something in return

Can't do that. He signed the offer sheet. If the Jazz match he is considered signed. If they don't he is considered signed by Portland.

i like wes mathews just like everyone else on this page...he is just a overall good player and utah had something very special in that kid.

Newly-minted $34 million man Wesley Matthews' phone is blowing up at the Las Vegas Summer League

No, I don't. Nor do I see where your wordy "response" answers, or even addresses, the question I axxed to begin with. That's my beef, eh?

I just spelled out for you why I didn't like the end result: i.e. having Portland agree to terms with Wes as opposed to us and having to match offer sheet (if we want to keep Wes, which we should) and swallow a poison pill first year, hence limiting our abilities for other options this year, as we are close to lux tax. You still are unable to see what the beef is? Maybe is you who is KOC's brother in law then, eh?

It sucks but like Milsap these are the guys that will result in a championship team, keep him, I say if you think he is going to develop into a very good 6th six man in this league than this kind of money isn't that bad considering just so much is saved when AK comes off the books next year...

So where would matching Matthews put Jazz payroll at? Probably right up to the LT with more roster spots to fill?

As one of Mathews biggest homers, at that price, see ya later. Thanks for working hard every day. THanks for playing great defense on a team desperate for someone willing/able to give their best every day. Alas, while strong, you are average in height and your ceiling is not much higher than reality. You got your 1800% raise. You can be replaced.

Around 64.5 million at 9 players. Bird rights on Fesenko. Bi-annual exception available. If matched, Jazz can only use those two things to sign players above minimum salary.

okay, time for Plan C.

Deron takes year off relaxing er uh recovering from an 'injury'. Like San Antonio.
Trade AK, & memo for draft picks or players on rookie contracts.
Put Sloan out to pasture and let the Ty Corbin era begin.
Find a bunch of scrapy guys with feel good stories- sign them to one year contracts WITH TEAM OPTIONS ON THE 2 & 3 year.
Hope the ping pong balls bounce your way next summer (Can't miss three times in a row, can they?)
