What's new

Matthews: Jazz never made me an offer. I would have accepted less.

Dude, look at his bank account. Maybe he's disappointed but with both the hometown discount and the bloated portland offer on the table I'm guessing he takes them money.

No hard feelings - thanks to Jazz starting you + your gritty play = you're rich.

"Probably" and "might", yeah right. There is no way in hell Matthew's agent would have let him just sign right back on with the Jazz without testing the FA market. Agents usually make a % of the player's salary (correct me if I'm wrong on this) so only an idiot would let their player go right out there and make a boneheaded move like that.

And to all those saying that this will come back and bite us in the ***, I highly doubt it. I have a feeling that 2010 will be the most money Wes will ever make in this league. That isn't a big knock against him; I like the guy. But come on, be realistic.

"I have a feeling that 2010 will be the most money Wes will ever make in this league.

This. And he had to capitalize on it while his value was at its highest. Good for him.

And good for Jazz, as long as Raja is close to what he once was -- one of the best defensive players in the league + deadly from 3. ...Wow - I hope.

Oh good gosh. You guys need to stop bitching about Matthews, he's gone. We've got Raja Bell and Gordon Hayward instead now.

Gambled and lost

If he really was absolutely wanting to stay with the Jazz, he could have had his agent call the Jazz before meeting with Portland with a offer of what he would play for. He rolled the dice and lost of the Jazz matching the offer, but he has over 30 million reasons to get over it. lol

The Jazz are doing everything right this offseason. Would love to have Matthews, but irregardless They are heading in the right direction.

This is the bad side of these young guys dealing with agents. An agent is ALWAYS gonna push for more $$$. If a player wants to stay with a team, he needs to get tough with his agent and tell him that his FIRST PRIORITY is to stay for a "reasonable" salary. I have to wonder if Wes just let his agent do what comes naturally; look for the most $$$... Too late now; really hated to lose him... Hopefully Wes learns from this and doesn't just sign whatever his agent lays in front of him...

I like Wes, but I don't feel sorry for him or his paycheck. And I don't believe it's as simple as "make me an offer and I stick around." I think he's a little hurt that the Jazz didn't fight for him, so now he's trying to spread the hurt around a bit.

He'll live and the Jazz will be just fine.

Wes got a great chance to play from the Jazz, Utah actually continued to trust that he would perform, He played great, Season ends Utah wants to sign him but you let the market decide a players, like that, value. Portland totally OVERPAID and "WES SIGNED IT" now he is disappointed that he realized he wont be a starter or getting as many mins. Its sad that he won't continue to develop as much, but I don't feel sorry for someone who has 34 million reasons to enjoy Portland. Loved ya wes, but don't act like you would of taken less money to stay, YOU SIGNED THE CONTRACT.
