Memo traded to NJ

Oh no!! I really wanted to see what Memo was going to do this year. He's been nothing if not loyal and I really like the guy. Yes, the front court is crowded, but this still makes me sad. :( Bye Memo! :(

Absolutely. Wish him nothing but the best. He played hard whie he was here and had as big or bigger impact than AK ever did, all while making less money and never crying about it.

Another money saving move that doesnt make us better. What a joke.

Question is whether this might be an immediate prelude to another deal, or just having the TPE going forward.

The second quote better be true or the first one is dead on. If this is it, and nothing else is in the works, then wow what a stupendous waste of an expiring, let alone what Memo can bring to a team. He is worth more than a TPE and 2nd rounder, even if just as an expiring.

Somehow, it seems like they could've gotten more.

I think they would have. But I get the bird in the hand theory. Memo was hardly a lock to make it to the deadline uninjured. Dealing him now, you're guaranteed to get something, and what you get isn't that much worse than what you would have got. It's a smart move. But I still hate it.

We could be looking at half a move. I'd hold your final verdict.

Sentimentally, I think most Jazz fans should be sad to see Memo go because off all the clutch shots he hit, his long tenure w/Utah and - while you'd never call him an "iron man" - he always tried to give it a go and often played through pain. Much like Horny complemented Stockton&Malone, once we got Deron in '05 and Boozer healthy in '06 - Memo was the perfect floor-spacer to allow those guys the freedom to do their thing. He made his teammates better by drawing a big out to the 3pt line, giving Boozer and Millsap more favorable matchups, Brewer room to float along the baseline, Harp and AK wider offensive rebounding lanes and Deron more room on screen-roll.

That said, Utah is entering a new era where we not only have proven NBA veterans (Jefferson, Millsap) but a glut of young talent (Favors, Kanter, Evans) in our frontcourt. I've repeatedly said we need to find a balance between remaining competitive while developing our young guys - and Memo's presense sort of got in the way of all that. His departure really clears up the logjam in the frontcourt while still leaving Utah with a solid amount of depth for this 66-game marathon.

Loved Memo for what he gave the Jazz, the initial 6-year $50 million deal he signed was a wonderful aquisition by Kevin O'Connor - but this is one of the hard decisions you have to make when you're rebuilding. It's just the right time to move on from both AK and Memo.

Like others have expressed, bittersweet move. First and foremost, I love that this opens up minutes for Kanter & Favors. The trade exception could be very handy in the next 6 months, the 2nd round pick could be a very early one if Deron bolts, leaving the Nets in disarray. That said, I'll miss Memo. He seemed like a very good guy, solid teammate, but he just didn't have the lateral quickness to defend anyone but low post dwelling 5's. Sure, he can create mismatches on the offensive end, but it's mitigated by his inability to defend most NBA bigs. Memo hit some big shots for us, helped us reach the Western Conference finals, and was a key part of the Deron Williams era. Sad, but it's time to move on, and I love our future headed forward.

I love Memo and I know the jazz organization does as well, but this was the right move. I look forward to see him teamed up with D-Will again.

Wow just sent the missionaries on their way and I check jazzfanz to see the "money man" on his way to NJ. Going to miss you Memo!! Good move KOC!

Harris-30, Watson-18, Tinsley-DNP
Hayward-24, Burks-24, Bell-DOA
Miles-20, Hayward, 8, Millsap-12, Evans-8
Favors-28, Millsap-20
Jefferson-30, Favors-4, Kanter 14

Something like this would be ideal imo. I'd love to see Kanter get more time, maybe Burks too, but I'm just not sure how the latter would happen unless Miles is moved and I'm not so sure we could afford to lose him just yet. God, that sounds scary.

No Howard?

Also, I don't think you're gonna want to count on Burks for 24 minutes. He'll need some time. We need help at the 2 because Bell didn't pan out.

Good trade for both. Memo would get 10 minutes a night here at most. Remember we got Al Jefferson for free basically because of a trade exception, they are incredibly useful.
