What's new

Memorializing the 2013 PG supporters

I've also got a love for McCollum. I think he could do for our bench what Crawford has done for the Clips.

I've also said that I want two PGs out of this draft.

Too much bust potential with the pg class this year. I don't know much about Smart being that he was always considered out of reach, Burke isn't the most athletic and is short, could be a struggle in the NBA, McCollum isn't a true pg, and MCW has great size, but I think it hinders his ball handling ability, can't shoot and looks a little clumsy.

Also we will have lots of other needs, backup bigs, and having lots of roster turnover. I don't know how good the pg class is for next year, but everyone claims it is really good. Maybe we can get a stud that year. Haven't frequented the 2014 draft thread much as I'm still trying to get a handle on this years class......... How does the pg class next year compare to this class?

I haven't seen anybody talk about how our cap space can help us move up this year if we want to. We take a contract and the higher pick for one of our lower picks. That cap space can help us really soon.

I think McCollum is the most undervalued by the board. Its understandable, though, as most thirst for a pure point.

PKM has said repeatedly that next year's pg crop is significantly better. I hope we get a good one.

That said, I still think we've got to put our backs into this incoming class. Burke is a legit prospect in any year, imo. And, McCollum has a full repertoire of offensive moves; he could be a great bench ignitor / role player.

Good point.... repped

From what I've heard... With the new bargaining agreement teams are less likely to trade down because they can get good to great talents at a bargain price for three years. In my opinion in order to move up we need to give up 14th pick and a c4 player. In this draft it's not worth the price as we'd also probably be asked to take a bad contract back as well.

Tell me if I'm misunderstanding you, but sounds like you would want to draft McCollum as a backup, my argument is that there might be two backup studs in the second round in Canaan and Wolters, who also have potential to become starters. This would allow us to maximize the talent in this draft.

It hasn't been mentioned here but there have been discussions that the Jazz should try and take on some ugly salary from the Bobcats to get a lotto pick in the 2014 draft.

McCollum has as much potential to be the best PG in this draft as anyone else, imo.

I like;

Burke
Smart
McCollum
MCW
BJ Young
Kabongo
Wolters
Canaan

It depends on how far you need to move up. I'm not giving up a member of the c4 for Burke. But, I think there's a possibility we won't have to.

I haven't seen much, but McCollum is probably a lot better than those other two. I didn't mean to say his ceiling is a bench guy... only that I think he can contribute there right away.

I've also said I think we should trade two second rounders for the pick that snags Wolters (in the same draft as when we select another pg earlier). Two pgs cuz we got none.

If we're not giving up a c4 guy then what do we give back along side our top pick?

Where is he mocked right now? I just haven't looked for a long time. People I talk to in the business tell me he should go around 12/13.. I've heard as high as 5.

DX has him at 17, nbadraft has him at 10, so sounds like he is an enigma to most.

PKM. How is McCollum's athletic ability compared to the other pg prospects you listed above?

He's a great athlete, a great shot/scorer.. he's just never proven to be a pass-first PG. That's why I think most here undervalue him. Scouts like him because he can score, is an athlete, and has a high bbIQ/smart player.

Yeah, I started a thread about us using the cap space in order to snag two 2014 picks. I didn't mention the Bobcats specifically, but I've been thinking/targeting 2014 since we stood pat at the deadline.

McCollum's defense is my biggest concern. I think he has an amazing set of offensive gifts. He'll struggle defending starting guards for a bit.... which is why I mentioned him as a bench ignitor at first.
