I'm not saying the Jazz didn't make a good deal, but trading a known elite player for prospects is never a sure thing. I look at it as a deal that made more financial sense given the CBA uncertainty less an equitable deal. But I'll never understand how Deron gets minimalized slash slandered to make it sound like a Win Win. The guy is a flat out stud. From a purely Vegas Odds standpoint, we'll be really lucky if any of the players we acquired in that deal become as good as he is. I'll never root against the Jazz, but I'll always root for Deron.

We'll be really surprised if any of the players we acquired in that deal become as expensive as he is, either. I like Deron, too, and he is a special player--top 10 or 20 in the league--but he wasn't enough of a leader to justify keeping him, and he was sucking up too much payroll.

Not since Magic Johnson (who isn't a conventional PG) has a point guard been the cornerstone of a title team. More than $15 million was too much money to pay for a floor general; recent ring-wearing PGs Derek Fisher and Rajon Rondo earn far less and even Tony Parker doesn't hit CP3's or DW8's pay scale. (Current champ Jason Kidd was clearly overpaid.)

Unlike the money-losing Nets, Utah minimized their financial losses for the near term by unloading their most expensive player. Now their #2 or #3 lineup can potentially be completely filled with lottery picks: Harris (#4), Burks (#12), Hayward (#9), Favors (#3), and Kanter (#3).

And as long as Jefferson doesn't play convincing defense, I'd be all for giving the above lineup a chance for several minutes per game--and reward the lineup or minimize it from there.

I disagree. I loved the guy until I met him at a season ticket holder autograph party. After that I wanted to punch him in the face. Then I started to notice how much of a whiny jerk he was on the court. He's a great player, but i don't like the guy and I think the Jazz are going to come out better having traded him.

This, GREAT player, but whinner and not the leader we needed, IMO.
 
The only time Derron is going to come back to Utah is to smoke us at the Energy Solutions Arena and that's it.
