Mike Conley Contingency Plan

Ha. Kyle gonna get more than Mike.
Kyle Lowry is 2 years OLDER than Mike Conley. He is also 1 year separated from impactful play. He took a reduced role with the raptors this season and the Raptors didn't even make the playoffs.

Mike conley was an all star this year, plays both sides of the court, and Chris Paul's importance for the Suns may get them both more value on the open market than other years.

I think Kyle makes less than Mike in 2022 due to age and impact on their given teams in 2021.

I keep saying this: we are not going to be hard-capped by trading Conley. The hard cap only applies to the team that receives a sign and trade player, not the one who trades him away. As long as the player we receive back is not also a sign and trade, we can go over the apron.

The biggest challenge is finding a trade partner Conley would like that could stay under the apron, because that team would become hard capped by receiving Conley. I think that makes the Lakers unlikely to take a sign and trade because they have a bunch of roster spots to fill. Boston could work. So could Philadelphia and Indiana.

If Conley were to look at a team with cap space (eg Heat, Knicks, Bulls, Mavs) we could take back less/no salary and get a trade exception.

The more research I do on this the more I actually think this is true. In this case it absolutely would be the best thing to do if Conley didn’t want to stay here.

Conley is selling his labor. Depending on how he values it, at this stage of his career, his options will multiply. Or not.

I know you know this, I’m just saying that the real-world whittles down options pretty fast.
Just checking. It was weird to think he would want to go Pelicans for instance. I get they have talent, but they were far below .500. I guess if they wanted to offer way more money anything is possible. All this S&T seems ultra low probability to me.

Also, hopefully the DL firing is in someway related to Conley. Maybe they didnt like each other or something and him getting fired makes Conley more likely to stay.

If he leaves we are dealing with another team's scraps. What about someone like Jeff Teague? I would mention Caruso but his urine is dirty at the moment.
