What's new

Mike D'Antoni has resigned as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers | SI.com

There must be many coaches who would love to have a roster this promising like the Jazz. One name is not everything. I just hope for the best. I hope Lindsey takes the Euro road regardless.

Big surprise. Until the announcement, the Lakers had stated D'Antoni would be back. I guess faced with the loss of Gasol and alienation of Kobe, who both despise D'Antoni, the choice was clear. And to think they could have had Jackson, but now he's with a different organization. Kind of like Corbin/Hornacek.

People really think Kobe and Gasol will listen to Fisher as a HC?

I'm not buying.

They don't have to. It's not like Lakers are a team that has patterns on O and D or set plays. It's just a franchise mostly, that pays the big bucks to the stars and free them to the playground.

If Messina now goes to the Lakers and has big success, I am going to be so po'd that the jazz stuck with nice, comfortable Ty for as long as they did.

My hope is that Messina is big on loyalty and class, and that he looks at the opportunity to build winners and make his mark on a team where he can have a HUGE impact. If it were me and I looked at the rosters & front office, I'd pick the Jazz all day. He shouldn't mind the weather here...dude lives in Russia.

I highly doubt the Lakers are going to hire some coach from overseas. I know he was there as an assistant, but the Lakers way requires that not only it be a "good" coach, but a big name coach. If the Lakers hire Messina I'll be shocked.
