Then he pays a premium and buys another overheated stock to get a surefire winner this time. Even though his stock broker jerked him around and leaked his plans out to the local papers 3-4 months earlier in hopes of raising the purchase price of said stock.DL buys stock in a company. He doesn't want to get too emotional about the ups and downs. He's read all the finances wisdom regarding patience. His stock continues to drop. He doesn't want to be the foolish guy who sells the stock at a low and then sees it explode. He wants to be extra sure that he knows for certain the stock is a failure before letting go. Unfortunately, the amount of certainty he requires before making that move is seeing the company go under, when he no longer has stock to sell.
You’re not gonna convince anyone on the merit of your position(s) by suggesting that trading Exum for Clarkson, Hood for Crowder, or Burks for Korver were bad.Buy high(Conley) and sell low(Hood, Exum, Burks, etc)
Its buy, hold, and only sell when you're hand is forced. You’re not gonna convince anyone on the merit of your position(s) by suggesting that trading Exum for Clarkson, Hood for Crowder, or Burks for Korver were bad.
In short, all three players you just mentioned are ***.
Sure, and I have my criticisms, but good god, those trades are better examples of DL’s competence than they are examples of his incompetence. Its buy, hold, and only sell when you're hand is forced.
My biggest issue is the "we have to maintain flexibility" then doesn't do anything meaningful with the flexibility. There is a big opportunity cost in staying flexible.Sure, and I have my criticisms, but good god, those trades are better examples of DL’s competence than they are examples of his incompetence.
One of his best attributes is salvaging situations, one of his worst is putting the Jazz in those situations to begin with.
Interestingly, the Ricky-Rudy-Faves scenario is one he went out of his way to create AND failed at salvaging it.My biggest issue is the "we have to maintain flexibility" then doesn't do anything meaningful with the flexibility. There is a big opportunity cost in staying flexible.
The Ricky Rudy Favs breakup was too late and we still don't know what happens if you just move one of those parts.
Fixating on one guy (whether it is draft trade or FA).
He's done pretty well in the fringe trades though.
The kak got burned too.Interestingly, the Ricky-Rudy-Faves scenario is one he went out of his way to create AND failed at salvaging it.
well, first we didn't just trade Exum for JC or Burks for Korver. we traded AB+2 picks for korver then Exum+2 picks for Clarkson. That is a total of FOUR picks that we've given up in the process. you can call these tiny little 2nd rounders whatever you want but when you pack these picks in bunches you bet that **** has values on the trade market. You’re not gonna convince anyone on the merit of your position(s) by suggesting that trading Exum for Clarkson, Hood for Crowder, or Burks for Korver were bad.

well, guess what? the last thing we have this summer is "flexibility". we are now stuck in a bad situation which DL created. one of the things that doomed us in the playoffs was bench depth and surely guys like Hood, AB, Crowder could've helped us with that. Just take Niang's minutes and split some of Royce's 35 minutes per game. not a big ask. or had we kept any of the 4 2nd round picks that we've given up in the Korver/JC trade i'm sure it'd help tooMy biggest issue is the "we have to maintain flexibility" then doesn't do anything meaningful with the flexibility. this is my biggest complaint about the Jazz and some of the fans who just give picks away like candy. Other teams do not do it very often. It especially pisses me off when we are taking back salary like in the Conley deal.well, first we didn't just trade Exum for JC or Burks for Korver. we traded AB+2 picks for korver then Exum+2 picks for Clarkson. it is bad especially consider that we only had half season of korver, and likely half season of JC too if we failed to reach the extension. it's not like these guys are like AD or kawhi in which even if they walk after playing just a few games could still help make all the difference. KK and JC are both just role players that are drafted by the same tiny little second rounders that we've given up.
Not to mention that same Crowder/Burks/Hood you called ****, Grizz/GSW/Cavs still managed to sell them for multiple draft picks, whereas DL sold them by giving aways picks... it's the very definition of lowballing, which is why we are currently out of second round pick this season and likely the first round pick next season... all for what exactly?
Well the Jazz have done precisely nothing with 2nd rounders since DL’s been here so they are kind of candy from that perspective.this is my biggest complaint about the Jazz and some of the fans who just give picks away like candy.
