I think you are confirming why sportsnut is in favor of this trade. All of the players listed in your argument were postulated as NBA MVP's in college. And you have to get a good draft pick or you don't have an chance. Ya, the clippers get good draft picks, but don't have a good organization or should i say one focused on winning basketball games let alone a championship.

Thus - IF YOU NEED A SPECIAL PLAYER TO WIN, then trade up with your 'average' players to do it. His bet is that Favors is risk in that direction. Milsap+ other guy is just average stuff - keep you were you are today.

And this is the age old Utah Jazz Fan question - risk it for the big one and take the chance of bigger failure or stay the conservative approach.

In this example sportnut claims the risk is minimal - he's considered by most to be a player - that is at least milsap. So then why not?

The reason of why not is what everyone else has stated - because NJ wouldn't do it.
 
Favors could be Millsap (in his first 2 or 3 years) in his ****-ing sleep. Adding to that, Millsap's ceiling is a poor-man's David West and Favors' ceiling is a cross between Amare and Dwight. Maybe Favors never gets there, but he can quite easily get putbacks, clean up around the basket, and get a fair share of blocks purely off of his desire and supreme physical attributes.

But this is beside the point that there's no way the Nets ever do that trade. I don't think they'd take Millsap for nothing from us because they're trying to preserve or expand their cap space for free agent pursuits.

I guess I believe Williams can be that guy. I felt the Jazz could have beaten any team in the playoffs that wasn't based in L.A.

Of course, the problem is that the last three years, the Jazz have faced the Lakers, so it's certainly an issue. The Jazz weren't that much differently defensively against the Lakers than other teams, namely mediocre, but they were much worse offensively because of Boozer's inability to score against their bigs. The Lakers like to force teams into one on one situations. I feel the Jazz need tinkering to contend, not reconstructing.
 
Milsap + #9 + taking back Yi's bad contract would get this done. And if necessary the Memphis pick (likely 13-16 in 2012). The NJ Nets are not that high on Favors they just spent the entire last year planning to build around John Wall. Favors is more of a center and they already have Brook Lopez. The fact that neither has a jump shot means they aren't a good match on the offensive side of things. Milsap, who hit in the high 40% range of his mid range jumpers would compliment Brook better. If the Jazz could snag him I think they would have a devastating front court in a couple years with the offensively talented 7'2 Tomic and Favors as the defensive stopper.

But that's the biggest thing that could change, regardless of whether Millsap is here or not. That's the big issue, not Millsap.

That said, if Boozer doesn't come back (and he probably won't), there's going to be a pretty massive talent vacuum that will need filling and the Jazz would be way better off in this situation. Even though, again, there's absolutely no way it happens. If Boozer stays and the Jazz get Favors, holy crap.

Yeah it's unlikely, but if we offered the memphis pick they might atleast consider it. Millsap, #9 and # 15 next year could land them 3 very good players. If they score big in free agency and with lopez holding down center, this could make them a pretty good team.

Nets, I talked to Avery yesterday. Sounds like he is high on Cousins but a) Thorn making the call and b) decent chance they trade pick
 
I'd do this trade. I really like either one of those players. Sometimes you have to sacrifice to make progress. We don't need much to improve. The Nets would do good by doing this trade. They have many more holes to fill. This trade will definitely help them do this. I'd hate to lose Millsap, but if we can get Favors or Turner then I would think it'd be worth it. However, I think I'd still go with Favors. Although, Turner could take pressure off of Deron to make plays. Ok, either player would be nice. :)
