Millsap Happy With Jazz Offseason So Far

Ditto, BUT ONLY if Favors EARNS the promotion to starting PF in TC & pre-season. Last season, it appeared to be handed to him based on perceived potential once the season started. I have to wonder if that's what bothered Millsap most...

I would rather see Jefferson off the bench. His "no pass" offense would be better against 2nd units and Favors and Sap's off ball movement and cuts would be better for the starters. I don't know if Favors would like to be the 5 on a full time basis but in my mind, that's the best O and D moving forward.
Favors has indicated in the past his dislike for the C position, as he's a tad lightweight for it. His strength is his mobility and agility, not his power. Remember towards the end of the season when we used Jefferson, Favors, AND Millsap together it was FAVORS who ran out to cover 3-point shooters, not Millsap. Millsap vs opposing PF's with post-up skills just puts our D at a horrible disadvantage. Opposing coaches are'nt dumb; if our D has a weakness, they're gonna exploit it...

I get where you are going with this statement but Favors has already "earned" a position to start. The question now is who is more deserving to start with Favors, Millsap or Jefferson?

I agree. Having Millsap and Burks on that second unit would be HUGE for the Jazz. That would be one of the biggest team improvements in my opinion. Millsap would beast against the backups of this league.
Foye, Burks, Millsap, Kanter with either Hayward or Marvin Williams rotating back in at SF. That's a prety good second unit. The offense can run through Burks, as Foye is a good spot-up shooter. In fact, we may see some of that with Hayward/Mo.

Those three names make me very excited about a second unit. I like the idea of what Foye can do but his best year was last year with an elite passer getting him the ball. We will not have that coming off the bench.

Yep, that second unit is unquestionably our strength.
Other teams with big-name first unit stars are not likely to often be outplayed for long stretches by our first unit no matter WHO among our current roster starts. It's when we come in with that 2nd unit when we can make hay. Either the opposing 1st unit will be gassed or we'll seriously outplay the opposing 2nd unit. That's all IF we'll push the ball offensively and get after it on D for 48 minutes!

I agree. You don't take your franchise player and ask him to adjust his game so other parts can fit. Derrick will be fine playing against most backup centers, but not the majority of starting 5's. With Mo and Marvin, the Jazz have enough outside shooting on the starting 5, so go with Jefferson and Favors inside.

I'd like to see Burks, Millsap and Kanter anchor the 2nd unit. Burks can penetrate and hit Kanter underneath, if he's open, or throw it out to Paul for a mid-range shot - or Foye at the arc. This team has so much potential. The 2nd unit isn't that much of a drop-off from the starters. Reminds me of the Memphis team under Hubie Brown. They were legitimately two-deep at every position (and finished 50-32).

And guess who their backup PG was?
Yep, Earl Watson.

Favors has not earned the right to start over Millsap. He`s still riding on potential.

Love to see him as our starting center though.

Arguably the best center of all time was 6`10" - and not that heavy.

Interesting, I hadn't even considered Millsap in that light. Would 5 years at say, 16/8 be good enough to justify retiring his jersey? I don't think so. Millsap has been very good, but not great. Not a dominant player. And I say that as a big fan of Paul.

Maybe the numbers won't, but if he played a full career and was beloved here that combined with very respectable numbers could be enough. Especially if there were a couple of deep playoff runs in there.

Let's put it this way, if Sap had a great 15 or so year productive career here and never played for another team, I wouldn't feel like it was an outrage if his number got retired.

Jefferson against anyone puts our D at a horrible disadvantage. Count me as someone who would like to see Jefferson off the bench, a la Dallas-era Antawn Jamison (a player I dislike who was amazingly effective as a 6th man). As it stands, Kanter isn't ready for prime time, and there should be plenty of minutes for Jefferson, Favors and Millsap (especially if Millsap continues to take some minutes at the 3). I'd prefer Favors-Millsap as the starting frontcourt. With the recent acquisitions of Mo, Foye and, to a lesser extent, Marvin, however, I fear the Jazz are acquiring shooters rather than play-makers to surround Jefferson. Ugly basketball, here we come.
