MOAR RUMORS

Re: Exum trade offers

I agree that GM's were likely just looking to buy low, but the fact that Snyder was consulted makes me wonder if any of the proposals were legitimately considered. What I also found interesting was that it was Snyder, rather than DL, making the comments & although it could be meaningless, it could also indicate that there is some sort of differing in opinion between the 2 regarding either Exum &/or our approach to the off-season. Snyder's comments sounded like a coach publicly supporting one of his players, which typically occurs when that player is either struggling &/or being discussed in trades.

I'm not advocating that we trade him by any means, but as the roster currently stands, PG is clearly our weakest position (production wise) & with the fact that we could essentially lose Hayward for nothing in 2 years (just as Exum projects to be ready to contribute), I wouldn't be surprised if DL was exploring potential trades to bring in established players who could push the team to contender status for the duration of Hayward's remaining contract. I love Exum's physical tools, defense, court-vision, character, & potential, but out of our core assets, he appears to be the most likely to be traded (due to the fact that he is still several years away from reaching his potential), along with (1 or the other) Hayward (due to his contract situation). There's probably nothing to the rumor, but I still believe that there is a decision to be made regarding prioritizing the short-term/long-term, so it will be interesting to see if anything eventually comes from this.
This is the sort of rampant speculation that makes me wish they would just cancel the off season.

Donuts, if my speculation comes off as rampant to you, then I think you're misinterpreting the intention of my post. I clearly stated that it is highly unlikely that there is any truth behind this, but what's the point of even following rumors if you don't intend to attempt to interpret the meaning behind them? During a slow off-season of a tight-lipped franchise, you have to make due with the little amount of information that actually makes it to the general public. I'm not suggesting that there is a major deal in the works, I'm just trying to gain some insight into the current mindset of our FO. If I had to guess, I would imagine that the roster essentially remains the same, with maybe a minor addition or 2 down the road. These rumors are likely no more than the FO doing it's due dilligance & exploring all potential options. I still think that the fact that 2 of our main assets (Hayward/Exum) are on varying timelines/paths of development warrants a discussion as far as what our best strategy is regarding the short-term/long-term, but maybe that speculation is too rampant. Just trying to get a relevant discussion going during a non-eventful point in time (at least for Jazz fans).

Exum, even with his many shortcomings last year, was a huge part of our defensive identity. His impact on that end was second to only Gobert starting and Favors at PF. The FO knows that too. Therefore, they are content with him taking his time to develop the other parts of his game, because unlike Trey Burke, he was instrumental to us racking up those late season wins.

Pretty special how his length and effort were able to offsset his glaring weaknesses. He is only going to get better as his NBA skills round out. He's not going anywhere.

I am one of those weirdos who is more excited about the possibility of signing Neto, than I am of a far-fetched blockbuster trade involving the two Treys. if the latter helps the former happen though, then hell yeah!

I don't think Neto's the next Stockton or anything, but I believe he's a big improvement over Burke.

Neto is not better than Burke.

Who can the Jazz bring in that has Exum's defensive potential at the other teams point of attack.Exum at 19 yrs old was defending star PG's nite after nite.

I think the FO loves that defense in front of Gobert that Exum can potentially be the best at.The identity that Utah found that can get them wins was playing great defense..Instead of building on what was the reason Utah started winning (defense)after the All star break ,lets get another PG to get more wins .F**k the defense ,Gobert can cover for everybody
Exum is STILL 19 ,turning 20 later this month and by all reports is stronger and bigger. Also getting a summer in learning PNR from Snyder and coaches ....remember Snyder was hired because of his expertise on PNR offense .Gobert explodes on the scene and all of sudden Snyder is a defensive coach.I think Exum shows his offense in SL this summer.

Neto is not better than Burke.

Im betting Neto can run a offense better than Burke and run a fast break where he can get the ball over for an easy layup. I always thought Burke being smaller and not very athletic couldn't deliver the ball for layups and always tryed to take it himself and bricking the fast break layups

With Exum being a big part of this team's defensive identity I don't think you move him right now.

If you can be elite on one end of the floor you shouldn't trade that for being pretty good on one end and okay on the other.

I think the Jazz will be an elite defensive team next year and I think they need to embrace it.

I'm not going to re-read your original post, but the only "rumors" I recall in it were ones that were generated between your own ears. Some people love drama, some people don't. IMO we are dealing with grown men. If they have an issue then they should bring it to management and deal with it straight up.

BTW, I feel the same way about team management. Deal with your employees transparently. If a player comes to management asking what is going on they should be told the truth. If DL has an issue with Quin or vice-versa they should deal with it, man to man.
