I don't know about you guys, but I was rooting for BYU just for the sake of Basketball in this state. The Jazz are dump, the Utes are an abortion, the Aggies have no hope of actually doing anything, and the Cougars are going down in flames.
I wanted to pos rep this.
We all gotta root for our home teams. It's the only decent thing to do.

If I'm going to root for a "home" team other than the Utes, it's going to be Utah State before it's BYU. I would assume most BYU fans feel the same way in regards to who they'd rather root for.
I've never really bought into the idea of rooting for your in-state rival for the good of our home teams. I've always had more respect for fans who are on one side of the rivalry or the other. I hate it when fans try to claim that they're a Utah fan but they root for BYU when the Utes aren't facing them, or vice-versa.
I'm very excited about BYU and Utah no longer playing in the same conference. No more rooting for your rival for the "good" of the conference, etc.
So, back in October, were you rooting for Utah just for the sake of football in this state? Utah State sucked, BYU was an abortion, and the Utes were undefeated.
Never. I'm with jazzman12 on this one. I think the only time I've ever rooted for the U was the Fiesta Bowl. I'm ashamed to even admit that.
Exactly. It's a shame BYU lost, because I was really hoping they would run the table, including the MWC Tourney, go into the NCAA as a #1 seed and get worked by some small, quick 16th seed. This ends that dream.
I must be the only Ute fan that has been rooting for BYU. It's definitely a bandwagon thing, though. But I wonder, does BYU winning somehow further diminish the already pathetic state of Utah basketball? I don't believe so. I believe, in the long run, everyone benefits from the run, even if just a bit.
I also believe few, if any, BYU fans would reciprocate, if the tables were turned.
That being said, if, in the hypothetical scenario that BYU had managed to keep itself in a position to snag a 1 seed with a MWC tourney win, I would still root for Utah to upset them and knock them down a peg or two.

Absolutely I was.
I desperately tried to get tickets to the TCU game for weeks (but they were sold out). Afterwords, the Utes were exposed and were shown to be just as inept as BYU (being blown out by ND was the waking up period for me).

I used to wear #44 and hike my socks in AAU ball because of a certain former Ute. I loved those Utah teams when I was younger. I'm not sure the same thing could ever happen today though.
