i think brushing this off as a “mentally ill person” does a tremendous disservice as we’re ignoring key factors in our society that are radicalizing people into doing horrible things.

The guy was drowning in RW sludge. Then again, we shouldn’t make it sound like his beliefs were outliers. I mean, he sounds like just your average Fox News viewer or Republican running for office. Right?

I think this is less a symptom of a populace brainwashed by political demonization and more of a mentally sick person angry at life. Perhaps he's taking his frustration out on those who have contributed to inflation?

I'd even venture a theory that this less to do with political demonization and more to do with the ease of committing violent crime and the frustration built up by a congress that doesn't even seem to care that its approval rating has been in the toilet for years.

Simple solution to all of this might be for politicians to start actually listening to constituents and actually place basic crime enforcement that most other countries have been using for decades?

We might be reaching a tipping point. Desperate Americans have been told to "eat cake" while inflation has skyrocketed. Even though most are frustrated with washington's indifference but don't resort to violence, Perhaps this individual felt it was time for a democrat to get the hammer?

It's a shame that some people are trying to make this a political issue.

So lets say you have a mentally sick person angry at life. Lets say they think the earth if flat, the cdc is in bed with bill gates and is out to get them with vaccines filled with tracking devices that also are designed to lower the population. They believe jews control space lazers. They think windmills cause cancer. They are afraid of 5g cell phones. They think there is a secret deep state cabal of childrens blood drinking pedophiles. They believe that their neighbors who vote differently than them are anti american socialist marxists. They think their guns are being taken away from them and their children are being forced to become trans (even though neither thing is actually happening to them). They think there was a stolen election. They think trump is an honest, good, kind, compassionate, law abiding, selfless man who cares about his country more than himself. They think that their vehicle that they drive is being taken away from them and they are being forced to drive an electric vehicle. You know, your typical mentally sick person angry at life.

Lets say this mentally sick person angry at life watches tucker carlson and is a huge huge fan who believes everything he says and tucker tells this mentally sick person that democratic politicians are responsible for all of the above. That democrats are intentionally trying to destroy the country and their way of life. That democrats are the enemy. This mentally sick person hears about how nancy pelosi tried to make trump supporters look bad by sending a bunch of antifa agents to storm the capital and terrorize congress on january 6th. Everything is her and the evil democrats fault.

Maybe that mentally sick person angry at life is nudged just enough to take action. IDK

That whole "Where is nancy" thing makes it seem less like a random crazy person attack and much more specific attack on a target. I dont think it was a random target with the person looking for "nancy"
Maybe it was a different nancy the attacker was looking for though and it was just coincidence. IDK

If voters have a low approval of congress right now when some things actually pass, imagine how much worse it’ll be with a split congress.

The GOP controlled House with MTG acting as shadow speaker cutting aid to Ukraine, attempting to cut social security and Medicare, attempting to institute national abortion bans, shutting down the government, and impeaching Biden once a month while Democrats hold the Senate and White House…

That’ll be real productive! For sure raise Congress’s approval rating!

Green, and a host of other people who have enormous frustation, and continue to direct it at politicians as opposed to employee shortages and supply chain disruptions.

It's a shame that some people are trying to make this a political issue.

Ya, problems are much much more helpful to republicans right now than solutions or any good things in the country so problems are all they want to talk about and of course they will exaggerate to create as much fear and anger as possible.
Fear and anger are what the GOP are using to try to win elections currently. And it seems to be working. Violence is just an acceptable side effect of winning elections.

Which is unfortunate. We need a principled, rational, and conservative party in this country that is focused on problem solving through governing. Instead, we have a bunch of nutjobs who merely want to throw sand into the gears of governing while turning half the country onto the other half.
