Mormon Temple ceremony.

So you objected to that video being posted here? I'm not being facetious i'm sincerely asking.

Would you object to Scientogist ceremonies being revealed too? Or only religions you decide you respect. It just seems like an arbitrary line to draw. And to act like its morally apprehensible to share the video seems like strange ground to stand on.

The advocate of the trolls! ... and the sanctimonious. Why not let other people reach their own decisions.

But really I have no beef with you. Do not want to start a flame war, that's for sure

If you don't want a flame war with other posters the I'd recommend you cut out your heave sarcasm. (Advocate of the trolls!).

I object to any video from any religion where the information shown was sacred and private to that religion.

Obvious exceptions would be if the video shows illegal behavior.

My understanding is that the Mormon Temple Ceremony is an adaptation from the Freemasons. Joseph Smith joined the Freemasons and shortly thereafter implemented the Endowment ceremony.

I've even heard theories that Joseph Smith was killed by Freemasons, or that Freemasons incited the mob that killed Joseph Smith, because he essentially shared the secret ceremony with all of his religious followers.

As for shaky ground to stand on I disagree. Affording people respect is not shaky ground.

I went through the temple. I'm not active anymore and I have no desire whatsoever to go back. I won't go into detail as to why. I have nothing against those that go to church. If it makes them a better person, great!

Part of me wishes I could have viewed the video before I went through so I wouldn't have been completely shocked at what the hell was going on. To me, when it comes to religion, it's between you and God. It shouldn't matter if some one filmed the temple ceremony or not. It doesn't effect your relationship with God. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people are offended but like I said, it's between you and God and who views it shouldn't matter. It won't change things or make those promises any less sacred.

You're right. It won't make those promises any less sacred or true to those who made them. It shouldn't affect their relationship with God. I see it as disrespect though.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I don't think exposing the ceremony is offensive in and of itself. The question was whether it would be offensive to posters on this site. The answer to that question is yes.

I don't think saying the F word is offensive, but I think it would be offensive for a person to go into a religious building and start loudly saying the F word. It's also offensive if someone has asked you to stop and you continue doing it (depending on circumstances, of course).

I entered the link and got a good chuckle:

When Smith was in the Carthage Jail in 1844, after he fired his last round in a small pepper-box pistol (which had been given to him that morning by Cyrus Wheelock), he held up his arms and may have been giving the Masonic call of distress, hoping Masons in the contingent would honor this call and not fire on him. It is recorded that he ran towards the open window with uplifted hands, and proclaimed, "Oh Lord my God." Most people saw this as only a plea to God for aid, although others suspect otherwise. This phrase, "Oh, Lord, my God, is there no help for the widow's son?" is the sign/token of a Master Mason in distress; a Mason is bound by honor to come to the utterer's aid if there is a greater chance of saving the life of the seeker than on losing his own.

Like I originally said in my earlier post in this thread: I wouldn't allow any sacred thing from any religion to be posted here. If it's something that is not open to everyone (restrictions on who can see it or participate in it), my view would be the same. Whether it's Islam, Catholic, Scientology, Masonic, etc.

Spare me that load of crap. Curiosity is him watching the video. Fair enough. Curiosity had nothing to do with him posting it on an online forum. Especially when he knows it is a dickish move and will offend several posters.
Ya this. Honestly, I don't care that it was posted. People do dbag stuff all the time. But at least be intellectually honest with why you are posting it. That bugs more than the video.

Touché on the sarcasm. I think I wrote the first part of that in one state of mind, rethought, but was too lazy to delete it. Oh wellskee

From TroutBum:

My dearest Dalamon,

I was in the middle of responding to those butt ****s when I was banned, so my message didn't go through. Would you be a dear and simply copy/paste this into the Mormon Temple Ceremony thread? Thanks my friend. May Gordon bless you with long days and pleasant nights.

Typical trout. He will offend everybody else in the world about anything but once he gets attacked, its incredibly personal and
Uncalled for. Prick.

The first part is right on, I can and will offend everyone. That's the beauty of being a douchebag, I'm an equal opportunity hater. The second part, however, is pure rubbish. First of all, nobody attacked me. Nobody attacked anything that even resembles me. I assume that because I'm a badass Mo, you thought that I was butt hurt about the video? Wrong. If someone wants to spend their time watching that crap, then go for it. What does, in fact, hurt my butt is the fact that many people in this thread stated that it would be horribly offensive to a majority of the people here, and even a mod piped up and said if anyone posted it that he'd remove it. My butt aches because someone actually had the balls to do just that, post it, and then act like they didn't do anything wrong. It's not about attacking Teh Mormonz!, it's about doing something prickish in order to offend a crap load of people. Like I said, I'm a douchebag and I'm game to go the rounds with anyone, but there are places that even douchebags don't go.

Its like Isaac Hayes (Chef) [RIP] quitting South Park only after they mocked Scientology... but not before they had systematically mocked pretty much everything and everyone else out there. Everything's fair game but what you're sensitive to... right

No, not everything is fair game, which is why you don't see Jew jokes, or black jokes, or pictures of posters families -- unless you're Pearla Watson, in which case it's totally cool to post pictures of other peoples families to "teach them a lesson" -- or any other crap that should and is off limits. Do people go over that line occasionally? Yup. Will I be there to call them a prick and or flex my awesome rep power at them? Yup.

How do you have 900+ posts? I've never read a single comment from you that made me think, "Hmmm, this dude is interesting. I'll at least remember his name/avatar/style." That is to say, you're pretty forgettable. But now all of a sudden you're an obnoxious bitch, which on top of being forgettable and/or not funny/interesting/cleaver/worth engaging, is a horrible place to be. You'll never get into the 20's with that combo. Send a PM to PKM and ask him how to win, ok?

Correct and correct.

There's also a lot of kiddy porn out there too. Why don't you just post some up, you know, since it'll really incite a lot of amazing conflict and angst. F them, you won't do what they tell you.

THE END.

I'll miss trout. Dude is the best poster on this board, always has been.

Thx for the rep pointers. Needless to say I strive for forum relevancy. 900+ posts cuz i took a break and changed my name. I'm currently searching for a forum identity and so I'm trying on a bunch of different personas. So whiney wasn't a hit... back to the drawing board

Regardless the video really isn't that bad. And I agree on principle it's messed up that someone felt the need
to 'expose' the Mormon wedding ceremony.. it reeks of misguided ill-intention. But what a lot or people here (whom I presume are LDS) need to understand its largely a curiosity factor with many people... just as I would be curious to see a Muslim or Jewish ceremony, not to mock but for perspective's sake.

But I don't see this as analogous to posting pictures of family members, personal information, or even making racist remarks. I agree those are over the line for this type of forum.
