tbphwy I think I started calling it soda about half the time and pop half the time after living in Missouri.

But yes, soda pop is inexcusible.

Congrats! Will you be at UCSF? Or what university?

Bay area is fun, I went to grad school in Berkeley. Cost of living is crazy high, though. It was high in Berkeley, and even higher in SF. Consider living elsewhere (for example, we lived in El Cerrito) and taking BART or bus into town. That's what my wife did--took the bus from El Cerrito to SF each morning.

I'm confused about why you are talking about employment if you are going to be in grad school. Isn't grad school pretty much a full time thing? I know grad students in my dept here at BYU are expected to work/study about 40-60 hours per week. Berkeley was similar. There was one semester when I got a part time job teaching ~10 hours/week for an MCAT review course, but that almost killed me and I wouldn't advise it.

I lived in Wisconsin for 4 years and people in my part of the state (west) didn't call it pop.

Now in UTAH, on the other hand--most people don't call it pop now, but when I was a college student (started in 1988), I heard it all the time.

I wasn't saying that people in WI calls it pop.. was just saying the word pop is so nails-on-the-chalkboard for me that I relate it back to that weird WI accent.. as being similar in its effect.

Going to Academy of Art to have more opportunities to use my skills and to build up some contacts. Don't really need the education tbh, but paying tuition to build a network and get my name out there.

I'm going to see how it goes for a while to determine whether other employment is feasible. I know I'll have a few gaps in between summer, fall, and spring sessions, and summer is a slightly lighter load. Once I get some recognition I will try and see if I can get paid for projects that will work towards my degree. That would be best case scenario. The main reason I want to gain some outside employment is to avoid living on campus for an extended period of time. It'd cut down on my debt a little and would be far less detrimental for the ol' sex life.
