An act of terrorism by definition is politically motivated. In terms of Muslim terrorists(IS, Al-Qaida, Taliban, Boko Haram etc) it's a blurry line as they act under the pretense that their one true religious interpretation means they deserve to be in charge politically.
The guy in Munich was not doing it in the name of any political organisation as far as the Police investigation concluded. The dude in Würzburg was a terrorist as his axe rampage in the local train was supported/instructed by IS.

Weird definition. Terrorism is an act of violence intended to induce fear in a population to pressure them to move in a certain direction. It, obviously, doesn't have to be in the name of a terrorist organization.

Edit: So it has to be ideologically motivated, but it doesn't have to be in the name of an actual organization.

because it's quite common for the media and many people to not call very-obvious terrorist attacks (like Charleston) as such because the accused aren't of arabic origin, or don't have Islamic ties.


This attack is a terrorist attack regardless of whether there is collusion with political organizations, militant groups, or if he's a lone wolf with a mental illness

too lazy to look it up so Im calling on my JF brain trust to clarify for me when the OKC bombing by Terry Nichols & Tim McVeigh (two dudes from Michigan as I recall) occurred.

Seems to me that was the first incident of terrorism in the U.S. (or at least the first in a long time, since the late 60's - early 70's)

But maybe I'm forgetting a few?

The way I see it legacy was his motivation.
In Germany we differentiate between "Amoklauf"(killing spree) and "Terroranschlag"(terrorist attack)
It's also important to notice by ruling out that this incident had a religious motive and properly communicating it through the media, those communities are being protected from potential backlash.

Also, not calling it religiously motivated can help prevent "copy cat" types of incidents by religious zealots seeking to glorify their cause.

Very interesting Wikipedia article and chart on domestic (U.S.) terrorism incidents - we've definitely had a bit of a lull since the late 60's - early 70's. But far more incidents are considered terrorism than I would have thought - though many resulted in few or no injuries or death.

Then you should address the journalists who covered the article in question if you think this slant was intentional and systemic. I'd also enjoy proof of the German press in participating in things of this nature.
