Musings on this upcoming draft

The floatation devices on the mom in the background as the little girl gets shot are mesmerizing.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I think this draft will surprise a lot of people with the high quality of players and their transition to the NBA.

Don't you think this is a little bit because this is the first time you've ever committed 50 hours of your life to reading scouting reports on Tyler Honeycutt?

This isn't about you, but everyone here has immersed themselves in the draft prospects much more than at any time in the past. Last year doesn't count because we basically knew which 15 guys we might get. This year, the whole freaking draft is available to us. So everybody is reading every scouting report.

What people should be realizing at this point is every one of them is basically the same: Does this well, struggles with that, lot of upside, looks like some player you've seen. What they never say: At least 50 percent of the guys in every draft is straight bust. This guy might be one of those busts.

This year's draft is as good as last year's draft. There are solid starters and role players in this draft. Irving is as good as Wall, just a different type of PG. Williams is as good as any SF in last year's draft. Kanter looks good, as does Knight. There is some depth at the forward position. It's not that bad.

Its not a bad draft for the Jazz if you change your expectations. Normally you would expect a 6 pick to be a starter and challenge for an allstar--well maybe this year you get a guy who is a contributor but isn't an allstar

maybe that 12th pick ends up being a roll player.

Most teams make a mistake by swinging for the fences with thier picks, always pursuing that ever ellusive 'upside', thats why players like Redd, Milsap, Mathews fall.

Well the jazz kind of have a mulligan in this draft. With the 12th pick they can take a swing for the fences or play it safe. With the canidates available I'm leaning towards playing it safe--Fredette or Singlton.

Drafting the Jimmer is playing it safe. Your talking about the Jimmer that played for BYU right?
