My dad voted for Trump

Here is an idea. Dont talk politics with friends, family and co-workers. It isnt worth it. Its never a good idea.

You essentially let the person you despise the most (Trump) drive a wedge between you and your dad. That was stupid.

Nobody truly supports anyone. Everyone would do things differently if they had their chance. Im sure your dad doesnt agree with all of Trumps views. Im sure he especially doesnt agree with the views in how you see Trump. So even if you are right about Trump, then Im sure he just made a mistake. It doesnt make him a piece of ****. Learn to forgive.

I can certainly understand having no respect for anyone voting for a proud sex offender. Almost have to be a scumbag to do so. However, I do know a lot of scumbags that are otherwise good people when they aren't voting for criminal molesters.

Can't wait for this election to be over so we can get on with more important things, like talking b-ball, where scumbags and non-scumbags can all come together as one.

If being disgusted by people supporting a proud sex offender makes me a douchebag, then I'm the douchiest of all the bags, ever. Guilty as charged.

If it makes any difference, you're one of my favorite scumbags around, however misguided.

Justified or not, I feel a deep animus for people who are voting for Trump because everything about Trump is the exact opposite of who I am and what I have come to value in life. When people choose Trump, they choose nearly everything that I despise in this world. By association, they become a person that negates everything that I hold dear.

At the same time, I can see that they are good people, and that I can still enjoy their company. However, deep inside, I remember when the time came to choose, they chose this piece of trash and therefore potentially put my children and world in jeopardy, while embracing all of the evils Trump has openly espoused and propagated.

I've never ever felt anything even close to this. In years past, I haven't even cared who people have voted for. I've given it almost zero thought. Trump has been an absolute game-changer for me, and its affected me like very few things. I've been sick for a week. My feelings of this threat have been as visceral as anything I've ever experienced. In short, I can understand the betrayal and animus that Str8line is feeling, even with his own dad.

The degree to which a person normally cares about seemingly insignificant things is normally a direct correlation to how much they care about large things. Everything is compounded. If you're normally someone who let's everything slide, then it will be the same thing in this case.

Probably because rational people who vote for Trump are rational enough not to tell people who they vote for because a lot of people take opinions on this election way too seriously/personally

What should we take seriously? When should we take anything seriously? I'm glad you've figured out how to live a life of perfection.

Noam Chomsky has marveled at the average American's ability to call into a sports talk radio with savant-like knowledge of the minutiae of a given sport. It's absolutely amazing how deep the knowledge of this sport is. When it comes to even simple aspects of foreign policy or politics on the other hand, Chomsky notes how frighteningly shallow our knowledge is when compared to our knowledge of sports. It seems as if what we feel is important is actually not when compared to things that really are.
