I contacted Jody Genessy and he sent the verbatim text of the responses people have been questioning of the KOC interview on media day that he had recorded:
So, the he "will be" actually came from the same statement. He made the comment he will be, but then later said he can't guarantee it, that he can't guarantee that about anyone on the team. This is what some people contended and which I did not disagree with (though the odds of them trading Deron for someone other than DWade, LeBron or Durant seems almost impossible). So, in rereading this, I think the idea that the Jazz are going to trade AK seems less likely to me than I had previously thought.
Question: A lot of rumors about A.K. being involved in a trade. Will he be a
member of the Jazz come Day 1 of the season?
KOC: Yes, he will be. And again I had a conversation with him and I can repeat
this very, very accurately and very honestly, is that we’ve never initiated a
trade call this whole summer about A.K. We think he’s going to have a good year
for us and going to be (voice trails off).
Have we listened and have we listened to trade calls about a lot of people?
Yeah. This was just one that somewhere got ahead of itself, you know. I mean, if
you were going to make that trade it would’ve been done Friday or Saturday at
the latest. It’s a situation where I won’t say that we haven’t had conversations
with not just one team with a lot of teams, but we are not looking to trade
Andrei Kirilenko. But do we listen to everything that comes across the way? Yes.
But can I guarantee you that he’s going to be here? No. Can I guarantee that
anybody’s going to be here if it improves our team or improves our situations as
far as a franchise goes? No.
