My Last Thread -- What KOC actually said

I contacted Jody Genessy and he sent the verbatim text of the responses people have been questioning of the KOC interview on media day that he had recorded:

Question: A lot of rumors about A.K. being involved in a trade. Will he be a
member of the Jazz come Day 1 of the season?

KOC: Yes, he will be. And again I had a conversation with him and I can repeat
this very, very accurately and very honestly, is that we’ve never initiated a
trade call this whole summer about A.K. We think he’s going to have a good year
for us and going to be (voice trails off).

Have we listened and have we listened to trade calls about a lot of people?
Yeah. This was just one that somewhere got ahead of itself, you know. I mean, if
you were going to make that trade it would’ve been done Friday or Saturday at
the latest. It’s a situation where I won’t say that we haven’t had conversations
with not just one team with a lot of teams, but we are not looking to trade
Andrei Kirilenko. But do we listen to everything that comes across the way? Yes.
But can I guarantee you that he’s going to be here? No. Can I guarantee that
anybody’s going to be here if it improves our team or improves our situations as
far as a franchise goes? No.

So, the he "will be" actually came from the same statement. He made the comment he will be, but then later said he can't guarantee it, that he can't guarantee that about anyone on the team. This is what some people contended and which I did not disagree with (though the odds of them trading Deron for someone other than DWade, LeBron or Durant seems almost impossible). So, in rereading this, I think the idea that the Jazz are going to trade AK seems less likely to me than I had previously thought.

Great reporting work, but from this statement I don't see any backing off of guarantees. KOC makes himself very clear that he thinks AK will be with the Jazz on day 1, but cannot guarantee anything. There is no contradiction here or backing off. KOC makes himself perfectly clear.

The way I always interpreted his comments remains the same: He specifically said Andrei would be here "day 1" of the 2010 season, but couldn't guarantee AK or any other member of the Jazz would be AFTER day 1 of the season. He already knew by then the ESPN-published deal was dead.
He's just doing what every GM in sports should do; keep their eyes and ears open for opportunities to make his ball club better.

Was this thread necessary? I dont think anyone really cares anymore. This was last week dude. Not only are you vain as hell, but a troll.

Backed off was not my terminology but the reporter's. I would agree that "backed off" wasn't the best term to describe what he said.

Also, so far as the other critical comments. I don't understand why you would make such comments in the first place. I was merely trying to clear up what so many had been contentious about and had posted a stream of comments challenging what I said the reporter said. One says I'm vain and the other calls me a name. Can you tell me what purpose this serves?

This is why I've decided to stop posting here, because there are so many jerks like those two individuals. I still can't understand why the mods allow this. In the old days people would be at least warned for doing this and be told to stick to substantive posting. I wanted to clear the air on this information, which I now can see no one cares about, so I decided to make this one last post. All they really cared about was insulting me.

I guess the mods like this free for all approach and like the contention and fighting. If that's what you want, then it's all yours. Have fun.
