A little over a year ago I was out in Philadelphia doing a toxicology rotation (crazy experience) at Albert Einstein Medical Center in a trashy part of Philly. Now, this isn't much of a problem as I didn't stay near the hospital. Since I was short on cash and they didn't provide housing, I ended up getting in touch with a few people out there and was fortunate to secure a room at a place owned by an older Japanese man for not too much money. It was only later that I came to find out this was the absolute worst part of Philly.

This was my daily one-mile walk to and from the subway. I'd leave about 6:30-7:00 in the morning and nobody was out.

These are the infamous Rocky Steps. When I got to the top I saw a girl jogging up and I kept saying in my mind, "Do it! Do it! Do it!" Unfortunately, she did not do it.

This is a cheesesteak from Pat's (ignore sloppy ketchup), which I thought was better than Geno's across the street.

This is what was left of occupy Philly as of a year ago. There were about thirty people. Almost as many city workers escorting their parade.

Ended up taking the Bolt Bus from Philly to NYC twice. It was nice. It was only $12 or so. Here are some greats from those trips...

This is 129 West 81st Street. For those unfamiliar, this is the address referenced for Jerry's apartment on the upper west side in Seinfeld.

Yes, that's right.

On the wall inside hangs a Mormon pass-along card.

Just down the street was Columbia University. Had never been and had time to kill.

Memories came back of Ray Stanz and Peter Venkman being tossed from the university and sitting on the steps planning their next move. Then I had my stroke of genius for my next move.

The Ghostbusters firehouse.

Saw this on PBS. Was happy to know Fes still had a gig outside the league.

Saw this in Santa Monica.

This is the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago. They have a glass box room that you can walk out on to. Pretty weird.

Drove up to Milwaukee for an interview and was sure to check out this.

This is the Home Alone house. Ironically, there's an ADT sign out front. It should read something like, "Warning: property booby-trapped by Macaulay Culkin". Anyway, I'm not sure if people view that house as a challenge to do what Joe Pesci and the other guy couldn't.

Not too terribly far from the Home Alone house sits the Married With Children home. Yep, this is the residence of one Al Bundy.

The world-famous Mayo Clinic. It's cold here.

This is in Phoenix. I'm assuming it used to be a Pizza Hut. Now it's a Thai Hut!

This is an art display at an Arkansas museum. I'm not sure what it is but to me it looked like a pregnant woman with, well, an erection.

This is the world's first Walmart in Bentonville, Arkansas.

I'm not going to say who these people are but if you know I'll send some rep over.

This is the view of the ocean-front property we rented out on the west side of Oahu. The crazy thing about this trip is that I saw Rob Schneider on three separate occasions on this trip. The first time was getting off the plane and he was standing in the jetway wearing a hat with glasses and I thought, "wow, that really looked like Rob Schneider." Then I told everyone and they thought I was nuts. Then we went up to the north shore and my wife wanted to randomly stop by a farmer's market. After a bit I took my son to the bathroom and lo and behold who was there but Rob Schneider wearing the same hat and glasses. He was with a Hispanic woman and a baby. I mentioned this again to everyone and then went to Wikipedia to confirm if he had a young kid or not. Learned he had a kid in November and was married to a Hispanic newscaster or something (can't remember, too lazy to check Wikipedia again). Then the third time was at baggage claim at LAX. That's when I got everyone's attention to prove I wasn't just having Rob Schneider delusions. Still weird though that we were on the same flight to and from in addition to randomly seeing him on the north shore.

This picture may be hard to comprehend but beyond that chain link fence sits the sandlot from the movie The Sandlot. You would never recognize it and if you looked at a picture from the movie you'd have to orient yourself with power lines and that guy's shed in addition to a couple houses. It's a strange location, as this is literally just a field that runs along the backyards of people on two different streets. This is off something like 900ish south about a mile or so west of I-15. Check it out if you get a chance, google filming locations for the address.

I apologize for the quality of this picture but I felt odd stopping to photograph someone's house by myself (the other ones I had someone with me, obviously). This is Scotty Smalls' house from The Sandlot. It's off Foothill in SLC.

bed_zpsd86f2cca.jpg

Last, but not least, this is the bed my wife and I started building a little over a year ago. It sat our garage for some time as we kept working in it some then taking several month breaks. Anyhow, we just barely finished it (sort of). We just need to fill in the holes, put two more pieces of trim on the top of head/footboards, sand and then paint. We'll wait until we move (in two weeks -- to Texas!) to finish that.

Also, I just tore my Achilles and had it reattached so it should be interesting. No more traveling (outside of TX) for a while.

You know, someone already made that reference on my Facebook. As I've never seen Dexter I'm not sure what it means.

When Dexter murders people he drugs them then hauls them to a predetermined "kill room" that is dominated by a table (that the victim is now tapped to) and completely lined with plastic sheeting so that all the evidence can be destroyed.

Haha....I've never seen anybody take a picture in front of the Home Alone house. Who knew it was in Milwakuee of all places? I was thinking more like Connecticut. I dig it. Looks like you had an interesting year.

Sorry, should have clarified: it, as well as the Married With Children house, is just north of Chicago. I was in Chicago and saw those on my drive up to Milwaukee.
