NBA.com article on the Jazz.

Ha. They misspelled Hayward's last name (Haywood). Pretty sad that everyone is so down on Hayward from a national standpoint, or at least it often seems that way. Dude is a stud. Also, we received a D+ overall and our bench got an F. Think our bench will be better than people think.

"The Jazz didn't find deals pleasing enough to trade Jefferson or Millsap last season and lost both during free agency for nothing. The only apparent hope here is to be in the mix for the No. 1 pick. This summer's first-rounder Burke had a rough initiation during summer league, which didn't inspire great confidence.

Not only did scoring and rebounding walk out the door with Jefferson and Millsap, but so did veteran leadership, for whatever that was worth for a team that faded down the stretch and missed the playoffs. With a potential starting five of Burke, Burks, Haywood, Favors and Kanter, and little behind them, expect the Jazz to hit a sour note."

That report is dishonest in my opinion. For example the Heat get a huge score for having Lebron and Wade on their team. Well that is great but they didn't pick them up this offseason.

Basically this is power ranking done with grades.

I think it's fair. Maybe a little high in terms of the coaching grade. :D
Jazz were in position to fight for the playoffs last season and could have done the same this year. Now they've committed to mediocrity...I mean rebuilding. They had a chance to bring in a decent wing and a legit PG. Instead, they opted to turn the team over to an undersized PG who couldn't get his shot off in the SUMMER league and either an untested wing (Burks) or one who is coming off a bad injury (Rush). Outside of Hayward, none of their projected top-5 has ever started. For that, their immediate grade should be a D. And any bench that has Biedrins, Jefferson and Lucas deserves an F. Evans, Clark and Burks/Rush are the top-3 off the bench (oh, I almost forgot Marvin Williams!)? I agree with the article: this could be the worst bench outside of Portland's last season.

That said, I applaud Lindsey's decisions. Jazz are in fantastic position for the draft and free agency next season, whilst also being able to retain the young players they want. I'm not counting on them getting a top-3 pick, but if they get lucky...FANTASTIC!. Otherwise, even if Burke and Burks are busts, they could go after the Harrison twins, for example. Same thing with Kanter or Favors: they'll have options with their two picks if a starter or two need to be replaced. Then they can use free agency to shore up the bench. If all five starters look solid, then draft BPA's and look for the same type of deal that was made with GS this season for the remaining cap space.

Jazz could easily go from a D+ and F to A's next season.

That is not always a bad thing, especially with contract talks taking place right now.

I have no problem with the grade that was given to Utah. Utah had huge turnover this offseason. Just seems shallow giving other teams high offseason grades for things they did not do this offseason.

You are not allowed to criticize Burke.

I completely agree.

No doubt. If an injury happens to a member of the C4 look out, this season could get ugly fast.

The Jazz have a lot of different directions that they could go after this season. I like that.

True dat. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

Am I allowed to say that I am excited to see him play but concerned that if he sucks real bad he will prevent us from ever seeing development or even a series of amazing plays by the other youngens?

PG is deep in a nice way. I'm not that worried but you're right about finding the right captain for the ship to cut the trip to a few days from a week.

What PG makes sense for the Jazz? Jeff Teague would have required a vast overpay for the Hawks to pass. Jarret Jack is a score first guard that would have done nothing to improve our bigs, and is closing in on 30. I don't think you can doc them much for taking a chance on Burke over the other options available.

Nope, Trey Burke is a demi-god and should only be talked about in reverence to his nearly godness.

I agree with you BTW, he could hurt the rest of the squad if he insists on being the ball handler and the offense running through him.

This is true for all but, like, 5 to 7 players in the entire NBA. And, it's true of ALL rookies. So, what's your point?

The jazz will have a leash on him. His job will be to get the team into sets, to keep the ball moving, and to make the right read, quickly. If he gets dribble happy and/or starts chucking, he'll get a lecture. Guaranteed.

I hope they have a short leash on him.

The offense needs to run through Hayward.
