NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

Active contracts are at 99 million. The rookies cap hold are 4 million and Haywards is 24 million I think. So that puts us around 127 million. We could drop all other cap holds, trade Burks and waive Diaw to get us down to around 110. Still over the cap limit to sign a FA but obviously under the luxury line.

We are just under 79m before cap holds. I don't see where they are getting 99 from. It seems like you either include all holds in which case it would be higher than 99 or don't in which case it would be lower than 99. Right?

I bet if his market value plummets low enough the Jazz will sign him and then trade him at the deadline or something like that.
And who starts? Or do you start them both and bench both Ingles and Hood. Trading at the deadline likely means taking salary back. Do you see the Jazz signing Hill for $15M at a discount and paying an additional $22M in taxes. I think at that level it becomes at least a 1.5x incremental tax rate. And that's on top of the tax they may already have to pay without further changes to the roster. Resigning Hayward will put them around $6M over, even if they don't use the MLE and keep their roster at 13 players. TBH, I think they still need to sign a backup center.

HoopsHype includes Diaw on their list, but doesn't count his salary in their $79M total. Also, I'm not sure at what point Ingles' deal hits the cap/cap holds. I would believe that once it's signed and sent to the league office, it's deducted from cap space - regardless of the moratorium. Otherwise, teams could just keep using their same cap space to sign as many players as they wanted between July 1st and July 6th.

If you add Diaw and Ingles' new deal to the total (plus some "likely incentives" HoopsHype missed), that's $99M.

Cap holds are for Hill, Mack, Withey and the two rookies. Hayward is no longer included as a cap hold since he declined his option (according to Spotrac)?

Spotrac is a much more accurate site, IMO, and is also quicker to update.

For those too lazy to look, here's a summary.
1. Jazz have $99M in committed salaries. Doesn't include Hayward, does include Diaw. And includes Ingles at his new amount.
2. Jazz have $25 in cap holds. Includes their first round picks and Hill, Withey and Mack. Does NOT include Hayward according to Spotrac. I find that strange. Could it be that declining an option removes a player from a cap hold?
3. They could instantly clear $28M by renouncing Hill, Withey, Mack and declining option on Diaw. Also includes eliminating their exceptions.
4. That would bring them to about $95M
5. Signing Hayward then puts them around $125m, with the luxury tax at $119m. That's for a 13-man roster.

I am getting it from the link I put on there. I think sportrac is more accurate but I they could be wrong. That hoopshype link is missing at least Inlges and maybe more.

Ingles hasn't signed yet. He should still be considered a 4m(iirc) cap hold.

Because you are a cap expert? Ingles has signed, but his contract isn't valid between him and the jazz until July 6th. That does not mean his cap hold remains the same. If that were the case, teams could just keep using cap space over and over again for 5 days. I doubt there's that loophole with the league. I tend to trust a site that has been doing this for years, HoopsHype used to be a reliable source, but their quality and timeliness has really dropped. Case in point was listing Diaw as a player, but not including his salary in their total.

They only list current salaries. They've apparently gotten out of the business of showing cap holds, etc. I stopped using them a couple of years ago because incomplete info is basically worthless info.
