Bam had 31... Dallas gave up 14 offensive rebounds... teams that won were playing a lot of regular center types.

Worth mentioning that if you want to compare apples to apples, you can subtract 1-2 inches from every player prior to a few years ago to compare to modern players' measurements, or you can add 1-2 inches to most modern players' measurements to compare to older players.

For example, people say that both Donovan and Conley are 6' 1" which isn't true. Donovan is 6' 1.25" without shoes while Conley is 5' 11" without shoes (but is 6' 1" in shoes).

I wish the league wouldn't have messed with the standards because it looks like the league suddenly shrunk 2 inches when it didn't.

Bam is 6' 8.75" without shoes and 6' 9.75 with shoes. Or what used to be called 6' 10". In even earlier eras they probably round up to 6' 11" or even 7'.

I don’t care about upper limit on height… the main argument was rim protecting centers… Bam and Williams are both traditional rim protecting centers… Bam can dribble and pass so he’s more dynamic.

I wouldn't say Bam is a traditional rim protecting C and part of the Celtics turnaround this year was actually mixing it up sometimes and putting Timelord in the Giannis role rather than the primary big defender. But you know what works defensively in the playoffs? Having a bunch of defensive talent. When you look at what's worked defensively over the playoffs the past few years, it's not one style or the other. The good defensive teams often have 1-2 DPOY level defenders with an additional 2-3 All defense level defenders in their rotation....sometimes they have that in their main 5.

The "worst" defender on the Celtics that played more than 10 minutes tonight was probably Jaylen Brown. Insane how much defensive talent they have. The Bucks stacked with Giannis, Jrue, Tucker, and Brook the year before....Lakers with LeBron (DPOY level when focused), AD, Caruso, Green....Raptors with Marc, Kawhi, Lowry, Siakam, Van Vleet, Green (OG wasn't even playing but they had him too)....Warriors with Draymond, Iggy, Klay, Bogut, Durant. There's no secret here, those teams were ****ing stacked on defense and this Boston team is no different.

Funny enough your last example seems to be how guys give their height IRL. I'm not tall and I've heard guys shorter than me give their height and they're claiming to be like 2" taller than my actual height when they are easily 1-2" shorter than me.

These contending teams have numerous high quality perimeter defenders. Not every player is an elite defender, but the teams have so many options. And all of them have great options for big lineups and the small ball. That roster flexibility is key.

It's less about defensive talent and more about not having defensive weak links imo.

You dont need otherworldly defenders across the board. That's the issue with Donovan. We are starting to groom him into the James Harden role where he gets what he wants and gets to dog it on defense. That's not a winning strategy. And personally I find it repulsive to watch.

Most people. There isnt much difference between 5'11 and 6'1 in regular life (especially if you're shorter than those heights). In basketball it's very similar too. Functionally there's very little difference between 5'11 and 6'2.

Yeah I guess. I usually give my actual height when asked and people typically comment that I "seem" taller than that.

This is probably related to the whole "girl inches" thing.

What's funny is they did this in high school even. I was legit 6'2 1/2" in shoes when I played. Measured a lot in different shoes even, pretty consistently. Listing 6'3" would have probably been legit. But they listed me at 6'4". Weird.
