What's new

Neto Officially signed.

Different games. He was on a ****ty team, and I mean ****ty! Yeah, his shot is suspect, but if I remember correctly, he shot it pretty decently from deep in FIBA. He is better than Burke because he makes things happen for others, whereas Burke prefers to get blocked by the rim, or only make obvious passes. Neto is creative and plays with pace. Neto is also really good at getting into the lane, Burke is not. Neto and Cotton can both get in the lane, (but Neto is thicker and taller than Cotton, and can finish in traffic that he doesn't outrun). Both Cotton and Neto can pass, but Neto is more dynamic and aware of the seldom seen lines (again, you can't judge assists on **** team). Neto has both Cotton and Burke beat on defense too. Neto is lightning quick, like Cotton, but is longer, and was able to grab 2 steals per 36 last season (yes, steals don't indicate defense, but he is regarded as a good defender as well).

20% from 3pt line is bad.... doesn't matter if you're playing for the Lakers or the local high school team.

They don't help you make the shot, that shot is on you.

It was the 13-14' Gordon Hayward situation, bro. That does matter a ton. Hayward was 41.5% from deep in '12-13, then shot 30% in '13-14 when we dismantled the team, and was able to bring it back up to 36% from 3 last year. No, Neto is not a shooter, but I don't think he is really 20% bad. Could be wrong, though.

His agent is Dan Fegan so he is eventually going to sign with the Mavs and we will have to kidnap him to stay.

Fegan was probably like "I ****ing lost DeAndre, let's get this **** done Neto. You're going to Utah. Let's sign this".

The thing is Hayward has shown to be a good shooter prior to that gap year... Neto on the other hand hasn't.

Seems to me like Cotton is being put through the ringer, running around hoops after hoops to get a contract, then suddenly Neto just walked in here and got the contract handed to him. I'm just not quite sure what the situation is. There must be something behind this.

I think it's ok. I think you forget that before this year we were always excited about Neto. He was GOOD. Let's just trust DL. I know I'm not ok with lyles. I think it's a waste when good shooting wings were there, but I guess I have to think they know what's best more than me.

Neto is the type of point that is still a good player w/o being a shooter, though. He is quick, and creative enough. Trey has neither of that going for him, and his shooting is pretty bad. Yeah, Trey is not 20% from 3, but he doesn't do much of anything besides not turn the ball over (unless you count wasting possessions with ill-advised shots, and shot clock expirations as turnovers).

Jazz like Cotton. Cotton should stay. Don't under-sell Neto, though. He does a lot of things that will help us. Burke should be the odd man out of the rotation.

That's why it's strange to me. Normally you have a gap in your rotation and you go out and get a player to fill it.

In this case Burke is still under contract, we've got Exum long term, and we seem to really like Cotton. Then out of the blue they just went out and sign Neto who hasn't proven himself even at the SL level (compared to Cotton who played for us at the end of last season).

A real head scratcher for me unless there is a bigger plans/moves at play here.
