Neto signs 3 year deal w/ club in Spain

How many players that have been stashed for 3+ years have come to the league and made a difference?

If they are not good enough to come make a difference when drafted, it's not likely that they will get good enough to make it worth a buyout of the contract a few years later.

Turkoglu. Dino Radja, Sarunas Marciulionis, Toni Kukoc, Marc Gasol, Sabonis, Stojaković, Petrovic

Scola also took a while to come over and really helped those Houston teams.

Neto's ceiling is likely a really nice backup. Those guys are fairly cheap. In 3 years if he becomes good we can bring him over. If not his draft rights get thrown into every hypothetical trade proposed on message boards for the next 3 years. We are the real winners in all of this.

Nice list. This shows it's possible at least.

Actually Hedo wasn't stashed at all, he was brought to the Kings right after the draft.

However, not all stashed for 3+ years but you can add to the list lots of good examples that were stashed for 2+ years, like Rubio, Scola, Gortat, Nenad Krstic, Songalia, Tiago Splitter, Krilenko!, Gordan Giricek! and Pekovic. Of course one of the bests is Ginobili. You can also add Asik to the list. He was a true draft and stash player and it worked out pretty good. You can count Ilyasova too. He was brought to the Bucks immedieately but after only a season he went Europe back and played two seasons with Barcelona. He was much better when he returned back to the NBA.

And recently, Patrick Beverley is a good example for American players stashed in Europe for a while.

Chances are you can add Mirotic to the list pretty soon. Also the Nets just brought Bojan Bogdanovic who was playing in my team in Europe, he can be a solid bench scorer for the Nets.

so, um, who's our backup point guard? Burke and Exum are both starters supposedley, or is Exum the backup to Burks/Burke? Put me in the category of people who think that Exum is a 2guard who can pass like, oh, Kobe perhaps. I don't think he should ever play at the one on a regular basis, so we need a backup 1 for Trey. Is it Ian? Look, I root for the little guy just like everyone, but I haven't seen anything more than nice average from him. Like a backup I guess. Well, maybe the new system will work as well for him as I keep saying it will for Hayward.

I think you are in the minority. Exum is a 1; he's a primary ballhandler. What the Jazz need with Exum in the starting lineup is a guard who can hit the 3. In that sense, I see Burks perhaps better suited to a Ginobili-type role. In one year, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a starting lineup of Exum (PG), Hayward (SG) and Hood (SF). A bigger reach, but I also wouldn't be shocked to see Favors at PF and Gobert at C. Unless Kanter has a breakout season, I don't see Utah spending a ton to keep him.

I think the Jazz had every intention of bringing him over to back up Burke. Then they drafted Exum and Neto went out the window. That sucks for Neto because it seemed like he really wanted to be in the NBA.

The road to basketball hell is paved with Jazz intentions.

And he wanted to play for Utah; Stockton was his idol. I don't think the dream is over. Exum will win the PG battle and Burke will be traded. At that point, a more experienced, and hopefully improved-shooting Neto will have the chance to come over. I say that happens in 2 years.
