New Space Station

I've never read about the viability of Jupiter's moons. Recommended reading or shall I just googit?

Some interesting stuff. Like the ice oceans they believe are beneath the surface on Europa and Titan.

So glad I listed the vets hospitals or all the money set aside to help the vets with things like PTSD. Oh wait I didn't...I wonder why? Hmm...

Does any critique of the military = disregarding vets or the benefits they are rightfully due (in my opinion) from this country?

I also like how you admit to having seen my desire to cut crap to work on the deficit but then act like I have no concern over it because I want to explore space.

You don't have a concern over it. You want to cut money and then spend those savings on ****ing space exploration. I hate to tell you but -1 + 1 = 0.

"...and veterans receiving disability and pensions." Yeah, awesome bro.

"I see space as one of the few things that has even a small chance of uniting humanity. It is so full of hope and wonder."

My response to this might have been slightly off as I reference going there permanently. That, however, doesn't change the fact that it's ****ing stupid romanticized nonsense. Yeah, when we went to the moon, that really united humanity. Give me a break. The point still stands. Ignorant, selfish people don't give a **** you, me or uniting humanity. Get that through your skull you hack.

Did I ever claim they did? I even said there would probably be wars and **** before that even happened. My comment about space uniting us was back when Dutch was talking about aliens.

You seem to have a hard time arguing the correct points with the right people this morning.

You hit me on wanting to live on Mars when I never said that.
You hit me on ignoring our problems here when I never said that.

That was a one time payment to anyone on Social Security and VA benefits. It was not related to their healthcare, monthly benefits, counseling, medications or anything else. It was a political ploy to get people on board.

Where did I ever imply that every dollar we save from cuts should be spent on something else.

Lets say the cuts I wanted save 500 billion. I am not askign to spend that much. We can't we get private entities involved and we add 5 billion?

I'm glad to know that not reaching the same conclussions you do about things means I do not care. YOu should run for politics.

Go mow your lawn.

I'm sorry, I usually love you but this idea absolutely boggles my mind. How the hell are we going to get one million people to Mars let alone 8 billion? How are we going to build enough **** there to house said people, employ said people, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera? That **** would only cost 100 times the national deficit of all countries in this world combined. And oh yeah, are we just going to stay indoors for the rest of our lives since ya know, we just can't walk around freely on Mars?

If we go there, it solves nothing. Dumb people will still be procreating in droves, there still will be lazy *** people who suck on the societal teet, and we'll be ****ing robots living in some indoor bubble, playing our game consoles, watching tv, shopping at The Gap.

This planet isn't fine but going to Mars isn't the answer. Not even close.

In the short term we aren't going to do any of that because we don't yet have the knowledge to do it in a meaningful way. We're doing no more than dipping our toe in the waters of space. We have a long way to go before we can really swim ion the ocean. I don't think space exploration is going to be anything but a massive draw on resources for well over 100 years.

My understanding is Jupiter has moons that exceed the size of ours. When the sun is large enough to be boiling away our seas, they will be close to temperate.

It's also interesting how these moons of Jupiter can have liquid water and molten cores. They typically have somewhat elliptical orbits and as they rotate on their own axis and spin around Jupiter the massive gravitational force of Jupiter causes them to distort (like if you were to squeeze a beach ball). The distortion causes friction within the moon, enough so to keep the core molten or water under the icy surface in a liquid state.

I am for more responsible spending. I want them to reduce the budget and deficit. However I fully recognize that there are areas that have to have money spent on them.

Here are some ways to save money:

Cut erroneaous military projects such as the "pain beam"
Stop life time pensions for members of Congress
Stop life time health insurance for members of congress
Completely remove ourselves form Afghanistan. They brought our invasion upon themselves. We should not spend a dime rebuilding them
Review all foreign aide and stop large amounts of it
Stop all "pork barrel" additions to bills. Make them make a bill for each of those items. See how many idiotic ones pass then
Leave Iraq completely
11 aircraft carriers? 11?! Surely we don't need more than 7-8
Remove the LSDP from Social Security
900 military bases? Our military is in 148 countries? Surely 150 bases is good enough and I bet we could get it down to 75 countries.
$4.5 billion to increase energy efficiency in federal buildings (GSA) (I could do it for 100 million easy)
$5 billion for weatherizing modest-income homes (they can buy it themselves)
$500 million for training of green-collar workers (if the economy demands those workers than companies will train them)
$300 million to acquire electric vehicles for the federal vehicle fleet (why not just but electric vehicles as you replace older ones? no extra money is needed)
$8 billion for intercity passenger rail projects and rail congestion grants, with priority for high-speed rail
$1.3 billion for Amtrak
$14.2 billion to give one-time $250 payments to Social Security recipients, people on Supplemental Security Income, and veterans receiving disability and pensions.

Not all spending cuts are good or right but we both know damn well that they could cut stupid crap and save billions.

Please don't trun this into a Romney or republican problem. This goes across the board and is to be laid at the feet of repubs and dems equally. This is not just Romneys or just Obamas fault. It is D.C.s.

Solid post. Way to back up your view. I agree with a lot of these cuts(or at least reevaluation), especially in the first half of the list. Now if we could just get Obama or Romney on board....

Our society plugging money into space exploration (I'm fine it's from private funds), is the equivalent of of my uncle who's on welfare and uses his allowance on lottery tickets.

Thank you for ignoring the whole part about cutting useless spending and all of that. Well done Wes.

No I read it. Just summing things up.

I'm just giving you a hard time.

I think things that we should spend money on are:
Education
First responders
Medical research
Space exploration
Military (within reason)
Boarders
Veteran aid programs
Food programs
Community service programs to get communities involved and have them solve their own problems
After school programs
Job training...

Things we should not be spending federal money on:

Benefits for congress
Unreasonable military spending
Afghanistan
Iraq
High speed rail (our society is not built for it to be effective)
Most foreign aide (give it to friends such as Britian, Japan, South Korea, AUstralia, Poland...not China, N. Korea, Palestine...)
Fighting marijuana
Amtrak
One time 250 payments...

The first offical commercial space flight took off today. SPace X launched a "Dargon Capsule" to the International Spacestation. It is a robotic craft with over 1,000 lbs. of supplies. Kind of cool to see the birth of commercial space flight.
