New Years resolutions.

PKM's thread made me think about my resolution this year which is finally kicking Soda out of my life. I was drinking two cans a day and I'm not overweight but since I am almost 30 I figure its going to start really affecting my life now as my metabolism slows down. It was hard to give up because it makes food taste better and it was nice having one in the afternoon at work for the caffeine.

Can anyone give me pointers that have gotten off soda? I know my religion frowns upon it but I have started drinking a little Iced tea which I love.

What is everyone else's New Year resolutions? Or just changes they currently working on for their lives?

My resolution is to reverse 3-5 years of early aging.

Good luck with soda. I switched to the new Max/zero and got used to diet. I drank that for a while but the taste got boring so I dumped it without setting out to. I used to drink 100-150 oz/day and don't see what the issue is having to quit it.

How are you going to reverse aging?

I am quitting soda as well, but that is because I have an extra 60 pounds I gotta drop this year somehow.

Sidenote, any idea why the Church (LDS) does not allow iced tea when the WoW says explicitly "hot" and "strong" drinks? Iced tea is really neither of those.

That is one thing I seriously never understood. How did they get coffee and tea, and specifically green/black tea, from "hot drinks", and not the bizarre concoctions that were being touted back at the time the WoW came into being as "tonics" which often had known hallucinogens, psychotics, stimulants, etc. in the brew?

Lets be honest I love my church but some things they did back in the day and even know are major head scratchers. I feel like I am stilling obeying the WOW by drinking iced tea instead of soda.

I've heard a theory that coffee/tea were outlawed by Brigham Young because the crops couldn't be grown in Utah. It's consistent with what he often said about the early settlers having issues building an economy from the ground up without sending off all their money through the traders.

Mormon Tea, on the other hand, was/is just fine to drink for its amphetamine stimulants when on the trail or sick in bed.

OP: try sparklin water. its good stuff. u can still get the fizzy and flavors of the soda up in ur mouth, but not the actual soda. try it bro.

I'm going to lose ~20+ pounds, I'm not fat by any means, but I'm definitely not lean or in shape.

Read my Bible more. I've been slacking with it, and I've noticed how my lack of reading/studying is making an impact on my life.

Work more. I wanna help my dad out, I need the money, and I need to buy a ring (wink, wink).

Just be more productive with my life in general. Whether that's reading more, being more active, watching less tv or whatever, just be more productive with my time.

You'll be surprised at how easy it is to quit drinking pop. If you can survive the first week of un-freaking-believable headaches, that is. Excedrine will be your friend; 2 of those and anywhere from 200 to 1,000 mg of ibuprofen should help. After two weeks, you'll forget that you even liked it. Eventually, you WILL drink a soda somewhere and it will not be the same as you remember; it will taste like ***. Your food will start to taste better, your endurance will be up, your sleep cycle will improve, and life in general will be better. You will likely pee a lot more, since you'll be drinking a lot of water. (it just happens, trust me)

I quit for almost two years before I picked up the habit again for no good reason at all. I feel bad for you quitters though, the first week (if you are/were a fiend like I was/am) are absolutely horrible.

See my problem with soda is that I don't exactly like it for the taste, I just like the carbonation...and I freaking hate carbonated water.

I'm drinking a lot less though.

Added one for you at the end bro.

You talk like a champ, you know that? I ain't winning no LD 'chips anytime soon, but as soon as you'd like a crack at me, I'd be happy to blow the dust off ol' Bertha and teach you a thing or two. It's not really fair, considering you're a skinny little bitch, but some humble pie might be just what you need. I'm in the STG whenever you're available. I hear they have a lot of driving ranges down here.

I realized I forgot to mention the actual important goals...

Catch the following species in Utah, on a fly:
Sacramento Perch**
Tiger Musky
Walleye
Bear Lake White Fish**
Bonneville White Fish**
Bonneville Cisco**
Lake Trout
Burbot** (this will be the hardest, no doubt)
Talapia**
June Sucker** (second hardest, as it is on the Endangered Species list)
Kokanee Salmon
Tiger Trout
Splake
Grass Carp

** These fish are only found in one single body of water in the state, and thus, a pain in the *** to catch.

And that should pretty much do it. There are other endangered non-game fish that I would love to catch also, but I won't target them. If I should happen upon one or two, then right frickin' on:

Bonytail
Bluehead sucker
Colorado pikeminnow
Flannelmouth sucker
Gizzard shad
Humpback chub
Least chub
Northern leatherside chub
Razorback sucker
Roundtail chub
Southern leatherside chub
Virgin chub
Virgin spinedace
Woundfin

lol I would bet most anything that you can hit a golf ball further than me, but that is about as relevant to actual golfing as saying you can jump higher than someone is relevant to being better than them in basketball. It only helps you if you are actually good at the sport.

I don't crush the ball, but I hit almost every fairway in a usual day and I'm probly about a 3 handicap right now (got down to a 1, then stopped playing for a while.)

The reason I always make fun of you about the long drive thing is cuz if you can hit the ball as far as you say, you are one of the greatest golf ball whacker guys in the world and letting your tremendous talent go to waste.

PS: I liked your New Years Resolutions. Square Bidness.

Back peddle... psssshhh. I will be the first to admit that what you say is true, it doesn't matter, and that I am a HORRID golfer. I hate it with a passion and haven't done it for two or three years. I used to love it, but once I hit my (admittedly very low) ceiling, it stopped being fun and became down right infuriating.

If you're really a 3 handi, then I'm impressed. I know maybe one scratch golfer, and he's golfed against Tiger Woods back in the day.
